“Right, later,” the man says, his face looking beet red.
I take the drink of the beer that I have been nursing for the last hour. I look at the flashing lights from the jukebox, thinking. All sorts of ideas flow through my mind on great stories to write. But I can’t think of one that will be amazing. I mean, writing about entertainment is not my cup of tea. Hell balls, writing about entertainment is so frivolous, nothing like the important news that’s happening in the city beat. Yet, that’s what I want to write about. But, of course, I understand that I’m starting, so I need to work hard and prove myself to earn the opportunity of writing what I want to write.
“Coldette, hello,” Marie yells, snapping her fingers in front of my eyes, giggling.
I blink my eyes turning to look at my BFF, lowering my eyelids to look at her happy face.
“Geeze, what the hell Marie. I was deep in thought,” I say, setting the half-full beer bottle on the countertop.
“Coldette, you gotta forget about work! Lori is here, and Kitty is on her way,” Marie says, shaking her hips to the beat to the old song that I love.
“You lost that lovin feeling,” Marie sings off tone, closing her eyes, swaying to the music.
I turn up my lips into a wide smile, moving my head to the beat, and I can’t help but join her in singing even if I can’t carry a note.
“Whoa, that lovin’ feelin’,” I sing, or more like yelling.
“Oh my god! You two are a hoot! I love that song from the Righteous Brothers, You’ve Lost That Lovin Feeling,” Lisa yells, waving her hands in the air, swaying to the song.
We finish the song, and I’m having so much fun. I then ask the bartender for another beer since mine is hot.
I take the drink of the cold beer, pushing my long dirty blonde hair from my face, closing my eyes.
A minute later, I shake out my hair and open my eyes to talk to my girls.
“Ohhhh, that guy is hot,” Lori says, pointing at the guy at the end of the bar with her little pinky as she takes a drink of her beer.
I look down the bar at the guy looking at us, taking a drag of his cigarette.
Whoa, that’s a cute dude.
I watch that tall, slender man walk up to us, turning his lips, flashing his even white teeth. I look at his dark brown eyes, round chin, and nose.
Yeah, the nose is a little on the bigger side with a broad nasal tip. I watch him stop next to Lisa, leaning on the bar countertop.
“Hey, girls,” a deep raspy voice yells over the music.
“Hi, hey,” we yell, laughing.
The laughter spills from deep inside my stomach, shaking my body as the throaty sounds spill.
Well, I’m starting to feel a little drunk, but I’m having fun relaxing.
It’s all good.
“I’m Larry; how are you girls doing,” Larry asks, smiling, flashing his even teeth at us.
“Great, good, awesome,” we yell.
Lisa talks to him since he’s standing next to her.
“Come with me to the bathroom,” Marie yells, taking Kitty’s and my hand.
We go to the bathroom, and I look into the mirror at my flushed face. I can’t believe that I’m drinking so much; I usually only drink one beer. But tonight, I want to relax, have fun, and not think of tomorrow.
“I’m happy to see Lisa, but where is Lori,” I ask, looking at my cell phone.
“Yeah, she’s somewhere in the bar with that dude,” Kitty says, smiling.
