“I know so.”
“Maybe.” He rolled his window down and reached into the side of his door for a pack of cigarettes.
I held a hand out and he put a cig in his mouth then freed one into my palm. He lit his up the mine and we sat in silence, music flowing between us while we stared out our windows and smoked. I let my eyes fall shut while I enjoyed the nicotine fix.
When we finished I unlocked the door.
“Let me know when you get home safely,” I looked back at Bishop. “Alright?”
“I’ve got you.” He nodded. “Have a good night.”
“Will do.”
I hopped out and jogged to the back door of the club. I slipped inside and headed straight to my office. I paused in the doorway while I looked at my flowers for a moment, a stupid ass smile trying to force itself across my face.
I walked around my desk, collapsed in my seat and pulled out the paperwork I’d started on earlier. I started back where I’d stopped so I could get it done and get out on the floor. I noticed that I was glancing at the flowers on my desk every few minutes but I couldn’t force myself to stop.
I paused when I heard knocking echoing through the office.
“What’s up?” I yelled. “Come on.”
The door opened and I paused.
Bishop stepped in and closed the door behind him.
“You alright?” I hopped up.
“Yeah. I’m good.” He walked around the room, circled around my desk and was in my space before I could fully comprehend what was going on.
“You sure?”
“Yeah.”
Bishop reached up, his hands grabbed my face and he pulled me in. I let him. My eyes fluttered automatically.
The moment our lips touched I felt like my chest tighten.
I liked it.
My hands went to his sides and I let Bishop lead the kiss. His tongue slid into my mouth and one of his hands trailed up my chest.
I wasn’t sure what I’d expected from kissing Bishop but this surpassed my dreams. It was sweet and passionate wrapped in one. He was a good lead and I was the type of man that could follow when it came down to it.
When we pulled apart we blinked at each other in a loaded silence.
“I’m being selfish,” he said simply. “And I didn’t want to regret not doing that tonight.”
“I’m glad you did.”
Bishop smiled and the usual cockiness he wore fell away in what looked like genuine excitement. I hoped he could see the excitement I was feeling too.
“I like you, Bishop,” I confessed.
He nodded silently. I smiled. I didn’t need him to say anything back. I just needed to express how I felt.
“I like you, Asante,” he said after a moment. “And I know you’re going to fuck me up in the end but I’m cool with it.”
“Or you’re going to fuck me up,” I countered.
