That was the power of music.

And Damien ruled his musical kingdom.

Watching him would never get old. His eyes sparkle as he bounced around the stage singing, andJesus,he was stunning on stage. He’d styled his light red hair atop his head. Icy blues bore into my soul, despite being lost in a crowd of people. How did he not see how handsome he was?

Tonight, he wore something a little fancier because of the high visibility of the venue. Black dress pants showed off his muscular thighs and how well-endowed he was—and yes, I was absolutely checking out his dick. His black button-up wasn’t buttoned all the way, showing off the base of his neck with blue lines of his tattoo and the top of his chest. A tease to the soft skin below. The tattoos on his arm peeked out from where he’drolled his sleeves and he only wore the brown leather bands around his wrist. On stage, he was every bit the rockstar I’d imagined him to be.

But I’d gotten to see the person underneath it all. We were connected in a way that we never had been before. Much more intimate. And just like every other time I’d seen him perform, his powerful voice mesmerized me. It was smooth as silk and thick like honey.

As I let the music into my bloodstream and move throughout my body, I swayed with the guitars and felt the lyrics deep in my heart. But it wasn’t only me who resonated with the songs. They filled everyone around me with the same sense of belonging.

The power of music.

It was all around us.

It brought everyone together despite our differences. This was only one of the reasons I loved music so much.

My chest ached with the need to be a part of this world, to find who I was through music.

Liam leaned down and yelled into my ear. “Seriously, Cay. They’re incredible!”

I beamed, as if he had complimented me. “I know!”

I couldn’t tell if, when it seemed Damien and I locked eyes, he actually saw me or if I was just a blur in the sea of people surrounding me. But I grew restless from his gaze, anyway.

Three girls stood behind me, talking loud enough for anyone to overhear.

“I call dibs on the singer. He is so hot.”

“Ugh. You always call dibs on the hottest one.”

“Which is why I called dibs. He is all mine.”

“Save some for us next time.”

I moved my hand over my mouth to cover my grin, knowing that she didn’t have a chance in hell with him. She wasn’t me.

And it felt like my own dirty little secret.

As I watched him, my chest became lighter, and that familiar warmth spread through my body. A warmth that only came when Damien was involved. Seeing him on stage, I was proud of him and what he had accomplished.

I hadn’t known him long, but I was proud of the man he’d become.

He didn’t share his scars with me, not yet anyway. But they were there. You saw them in the way he sang from his heart, from the emotion behind every performance. He had gone through so much to get to where he was now. This life hadn’t come easy.

Despite that, he continued to be a large part of his niece and nephew’s lives, and he took care of his sister when she needed him. He did everything in his power to provide for those he loved. He would give them anything he had if only to bring them happiness.

I was taken aback when the lights came on around us. I had lost track of the world outside of Rebel Rebellion’s music.

Liam threw his arm over my shoulder. “So, now what?”

I hadn’t noticed where Rebel Rebellion had set up to meet their fans. “I’m not sure. We can hang out around here or return to the restaurant.”

“Whatever you want. I want to grab another drink.”

“You head to the bar, and I’ll see if I can find somewhere to pee.”

Liam chuckled. “Want anything?”
