“Seriously?”
I nodded, “Yes, and I’m here visiting Damien. And things have been… heated.”
“You slept with him.”
My cheeks burned at his words. “Yeah.”
Liam’s eyebrow raised, and he lifted the corner of his mouth. “And you look delighted. Good man.”
“God, you’re such a guy.”
“Yes, I am indeed.”
When we got to the table the restaurant had reserved forthe band, Damien pulled his phone out and looked instantly annoyed. “Sorry, false alarm guys. They need us backstage.”
Hudson sighed. “I was really looking forward to a nice cold beer right about now.”
“Me too. We’ve been working our asses off since this afternoon,” Colton agreed.
“We’ll see you after the show,” Shane said as he whipped his bangs to the side.
Jeremiah waved as the four started walking back. I grabbed Damien’s arm and pulled him toward me. He moved slowly, timidly. It was so different from how he’d acted only moments ago. “What’s wrong?”
He ran his hand through his hair, plastering a look of indifference on his face. “Nothing. I didn’t want to do anything to upset your friend. You didn’t seem like you wanted us to act like… like we were before.”
I wrinkled my nose as I smiled. “You’re adorable. I needed to tell Liam that I’d broken it off with Elijah, and you and I were… well, together.”
Damien stepped into me, chest to chest. “That’s all that was?”
I nodded as his lips came closer to me. “That’s all.”
He placed a light but powerful kiss on my mouth before pulling away. “I adore you, Cadence.”
“I’d say the feeling is mutual.”
“I’ll come find you after the gig.”
“Don’t worry about me. I know how crazy it gets after a show. I’ll be with Liam.”
“You see me. You truly see me.”
I ran my fingers down his cheek. “I do.”
We kissed one last time before Damien waved to Liam, who had made himself comfortable in the squared booth, and walked back to the big stage.
“Okay. What happened with Elijah?” Liam said as soon as the waitress brought our drinks and appetizers. He was a typical guy with a gin and tonic, but I went with a Cosmo. Something a little fancier than my usual drink.
Jumping right in, I told him about coming home from Fayetteville and getting fired without Elijah’s support.
Liam voiced the classic grunts and ‘Are you kidding me?’s.
“So, there it is. I moved back to Fayetteville and am looking for a place and trying to figure out what I want to do with my life.” I took a sip of my drink.
“Okay. Now explain to me how you got to Los Angeles.”
“Well, Jade thought it would be good for me to be spontaneous.”
“And Damien is your spontaneous? Is he okay with that?”
