And as an added bonus, his boy Tiburón would have a chance at dating Blanca.
“I’ll take that deal. But I want one more thing.”
She shifted on her feet. “Then what do you want?”
He brushed a lock of hair out of her face. “A kiss.”
Her jaw dropped and she swallowed hard. “What? Why? This is a fake relationship. You said you don’t do long distance anyway.”
“I know. I don’t. But I like you. You’re funny. And spunky. And sassy. And I think you like me, too, or you wouldn’t have told your dad I was your boyfriend. Or defended me to him. And I just want to spend some time with you. I’ll be a perfect gentleman. But if you don’t want to, I’ll back off. I’ll be your fake boyfriend whether you kiss me or not.”
His hand grazed the small of her back, the tension between them almost magnetic as he continued, “But I hope you will.”
She licked her lower lip, and her breath faltered. “You’re not wrong. I like you. You’re kind. And you’re weirdly sweet. And...” Her gaze fixed on his mouth, then flicked back to his eyes. “You have amazing lips.”
“So do you,” he replied, and stroked a lock of her hair off her face.
He grinned and leaned into her. “Kiss me, mi amor.”
Chapter Ten
Kiss him? He wanted her to kiss him?
But he didn’t know her embarrassing truth. She didn’t just play a virgin in Las Posadas; she was one in real life.
And even worse—she’d never been kissed.
She felt exactly like what all those mean-girls taunted her about in high school when she spent all her time studying. A weirdo who no guy would ever like. Why would this ruggedly handsome, rich, and kind man even want to kiss her? She had been rude to him when they’d met and refused to talk to him about her farm. Then she’d topped off her awful behavior by lying to her father about the nature of their relationship without telling Enrique first.
But he was still here.
Warmth flushed over her. She wanted him to kiss her. To feel his lips on hers, to taste his mouth.
To be his, if only for a moment in time.
“I’m nervous.” Should she tell him? After all her lies, he deservedto know at least something that was truthful. “I’ve never been kissed before.”
His jaw dropped, but he quickly closed it and smiled. “I’m happy to be your first.”
She looked up at him, his long, dark hair falling into his face. Her heartbeat raced. “I’m afraid I’ll be bad.”
His gaze raked over her body. “That’s not even possible.”
She wanted to sink into the ground with her humiliation, almost wishing this night had never happened.
But there was no snide or mocking expression on his face. Just a twinkle in his eyes.
“But I don’t want to pressure you. You have to tell me if you want me to kiss you.”
They stood in the hospital courtyard, under the buzzing fluorescent lights of a multistory parking lot. This was definitely not where she’d imagined her first kiss would take place.
But if she didn’t seize this moment, it might not come again.
She placed her hand on his chest. “Bésame, Enrique.”
He grinned and pulled her closer. “I thought you’d never ask.”
She closed her eyes, waiting for him, nerves racing through her body. His hands cupped her face, then his mouth covered hers.
