“She says she’ll move in with me, but she’s resisting talks of marriage because she doesn’t want me to feel forced into it.”

“But you’ve been crazy about her for years. You may not have said anything, but it was easy to see.”

“With all the Hollywood bimbos on my arm, she’s not buying that.”

“You do have a type.”

“They were never my type, and now, they’re my regret.”

“Well, tell me if there’s anything I can do to help.”

“If you could plan a family dinner for the middle of next week, I’d like to announce the news to everyone, so she sees that I’m not trying to hide her.”

“Good idea.”

“How do you think the others are going to take the news?”

“Most will be thrilled, though I’m sure Axel will feel a sting.”

I frown. “Yeah, he always did have a thing for her.”

“He’ll get over it.”

“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to get to planning, which is something Penny typically does.”

“Is Penny just not working anymore?”

“I’m sure she’ll try to, but I want her focused on herself and the baby.”

“Good luck with that,” Duke says, chuckling.

He leaves, and I get back to work, putting out five fires that popped up over the day I was away.

By the time I make it back to the house, it’s already dark. I tiptoe quietly so I don’t wake Penny, but a glow coming from the kitchen catches my attention.

As I start to walk over, I hear the unmistakable sound of Penny moaning, which sends hot fury pumping through my veins.

Whoever the hell she’s with had better pray they’re right with God.

I storm into the kitchen, snarling, only to find Penny holding a carton of ice cream, a spoon sticking out of her mouth.

Her hair is thrown up in a messy bun, just the way I like it, and her glasses are a little crooked, which is charming.

“Oh…”

She swallows. “Was this off-limits?” She wags the carton.

“Nothing is off limits to you.”

“But you look mad.”

I chuckle. “I’m not.”

I watch her as she takes another bite and presses her eyes closed when the flavor hits her taste buds.

God, she’s gorgeous.

And all mine.
