“You okay, man?”
He shakes his head from side to side. “Almost stuck my dick in crazy.”
“Been there,” I say with a chuckle.
He storms to the back of the bus and ascends to the second floor.
A moment later, Armando plops down in a chair across from me.
“Hey, I’ve been meaning to ask, is something going on? You’ve been acting a little…distracted.”
Seeing as how Armando is my best bus friend, I figure I should probably tell him about the droid situation.
“Yeah, actually.”
“I’m all ears.”
“Remember that night I hooked up with the chick in the bathroom?”
Armando smirks as he nods. “Who could forget? She was loud as hell and you had scratches on your shoulders for an entire week.”
“She’s pregnant.”
His brow lifts, and he looks down at his lap as though hesitant to say something.
“Well?”
“Are you sure it’s yours?”
“Actually, yeah. She’s not desperate for money and she hardly asks anything of me.”
“Then why’d she even tell you?”
“I guess…so the baby could have me in their life? Unfortunately, I don’t think she wants me in her life.”
“Her life? As in a relationship? You hardly know this woman.”
“But she’s having my baby, and that means something to me.”
“You can’t build your relationship off of a child. If that’s all you have in common, it will never work.”
“It’s not just the child that has me interested. Even before she told me she was pregnant, I’d been thinking about her.”
“Thinking about her isn’t the same as having something in common.”
I pull out my phone and toggle to the conversation I’d had with her when she was pretending to be Trisha Kinney.
“Before dropping the bomb, she was feeling me out, getting to know me. And I think we hold our own against each other pretty damn well.”
He reads through the texts, smiling softly and nodding his head.
“She’s spicy, which, if you don’t mind me saying, is something you need in your life. And you’re both Star Wars nerds, so that’s a big plus.”
“We met up recently and had the most amazing afternoon, but afterward, she pulled away. Hard.”
“Do you think it’s because she’s scared?”
“Nothing could scare my girl.”
