“He is a popular dancer…” I start to say, but the puzzle pieces click into place.

“And I’m sure you know how Bianca found out her fiancé was cheating with the pool boy.”

“She walked in on them?”

“It was Samantha who took her to them, and she didn’t do it altruistically.”

“You can’t mean?—”

“Stop defending her. You see how furious Natasha is, day in and day out. Samantha could easily just tell her what she’s doingaboard the bus and Nat wouldn’t say a thing to her family. But she chooses to keep select people in the dark, further driving a wedge between Natasha and the Hunks, who are now sucking up to her.”

It’s like the wind has been knocked out of me.

Samantha, the woman I more than like and could one day love, the mother of my growing child, is a shit-stirrer, and now that I know what she’s done, I can hardly hold it against Natasha and Slay for their contempt.

“It’s not like Samantha plans on staying here forever, so hopefully things will go back to normal soon,” Vanessa reasons.

“Yeah,” I say, feeling like I’m about to vomit.

I don’t know what to do anymore. Over the last few weeks, I’ve felt closer to Samantha than I ever have with a woman, but what if it’s all a lie? What if she’s just acting?

Clearly, she’s pregnant, and I’m pretty sure the baby is mine, because what reason would she have to lie about that?

But what if there’s more to the conception story?

What if little droid’s creation was intentional?

It makes no sense, because why would she want to get impregnated by a stripper? But maybe she just wanted a baby, and she figured I wouldn’t fight her too hard for custody.

My whole fucking world tilts on its axis, because I don’t know what the hell Samantha is capable of.

“Tox, are you okay?” Vanessa looks up at me, squinting.

“Yeah, I’m fine.”

It’s a lie.

“Don’t take what I said personally. I didn’t mean to sound like such a bitch, especially with everything she’s doing for us. For what it’s worth, I don’t think she’s evil. I just think she enjoys drama.”

Confused, I return to the bus and knock on Carl’s door, hoping to get some additional days off.

“Come in!”

Inside, I see Samantha seated across from him, smiling up at me with those gorgeous emerald eyes she has.

I still want her. Desperately.

But I have to remember what she’s done.

“Glad to see you!” Carl enthuses. “Samantha and I were just going over the plan she’s put together, and I have to say, your girl is a genius.”

Seeing the reverent look on Carl’s face when he speaks to Samantha’s intelligence makes me damn proud.

Forcing a smile, I say, “That’s great, but I was hoping I could ask a favor.”

As he’s about to say something, he grimaces and starts rubbing his stomach.

I quirk a brow. “You okay?”
