“And we care because?” he teases.
“Just fucking do it,” I snap as I hear him laugh.
He and my other brothers slash best friends have mocked me about being Anu’s roommate for ulterior motives. They are right, but I’m not about to give them a yes.
“Fine, I’ll get it done and send you the bill.” He laughs more.
“Thanks,” I say, hanging up, knowing it’s as good as done. That motherfucker won’t see it coming. I’m going to find a way to make Zack drive her to this lesson every time. Come to think of it, what happened to her car?
Me: Where is your car?
Anu: Woke up to a flat tire, didn’t have time to deal with it, will take care of it later.
Me: Send me Nkem’s address, I’ll have it fixed.
Anu: Jordan said he’ll take care of it later today.
Me: Send me the address, Anu.
Anu: 1050 S. Lakeshore drive
Me: It should be home when you return.
I buzz Patrick and he comes in. He has schooled his features for whatever bombshell I can possibly drop.
“Relax, I’m good now, just needed some air.” I watch him exhale.
“Aaron came back, and I told him you were out,” I hear annoyance in his voice. Aaron can be a bit whinny when he’s not getting his way. I can only imagine the nonsense he may have spilled on Patrick.
“Disregard him,” I answer, dismissing talks about Aaron. “Right now, I need you to work your magic. Ms K’s car is at this address, with a flat tire. I need it fixed and at our place within the next two hours.”Wait, did I just say our place?
“Not a problem, do you have the keys?” Yep, I didn’t think of that.
“Hold on.”
Me: Keys to the car?
Anu: Nkem is home, she is in apt 402. I’ll let her know. Got to go, Richard is giving me a stinky eye.
I don’t respond. I try not to fume about her last sentence. I turn to Patrick, giving him the information about the car. He leaves and I call Bruce back.
“Hey, did you call the guy already?”
“Yep, he’s easy. I sent him some pictures and told him all his clandestine moves outside his marriage will be shared with his wife, if he doesn’t back away from MAK.”
“Thanks. She sent me a message saying he’s giving her a stinky eye.”
“His ego is crushed, let me know if he needs a reminder.”
“Okay, thanks Bro.”
Chapter 29
Anu-Ms K
I hear the door close and decide to come out. It’s my signal that he left. I’ve been avoiding him since our kiss, that took me by surprise. Damn! It was a good kiss. Tender. Slow. Indulgent. Savory with a taste of craving. A good thing we were outside; my feet were becoming jelly with that kiss that had my whole being yearning for more.
And now I’m just a tad bit shy of covering my face with my hand when I see him, I have done everything to avoid him, and I’m quite sure that he knows that’s what I’m doing, and I’m thankful that he hasn’t called me out on my BS.
