“Princess, are you sure you are, okay?” I ask again even as I know she’s not okay.
“I’m fine, just wanted to say thank you for every sweet breath of life you’ve given me.”
“Baby, I love you too. I’ll be home in a few hours.” I hear her soft cries that she tries to hide. It all happens fast. Bruce’s men have made entry. The man is disarmed and restrained. One would expect him to fight, but he’s silent like a man that knows the score if he doesn’t succeed. “I’ll see you in a few hours, Princess, and I love you so much.”
All I hear is her crying.
“Jordan, please, take care of my wife.” I shout.
“I got you.”
I hung up and drew a long breath for the first time since Bruce called me. Today, the crushing weight of potentially losing them threatened to suffocate me.
My phone rings again; it’s Bruce. “We got the guy, and we are leading him out quietly. What do you want to do” He asks
“End him” I say in a firm tone. He tried three times to kill her. I won’t give him another chance.
“You sure” he asks
“Without a shadow of doubt” I say
“Okay, she’s safe now”
“Thank you,” I say, Aaron comes to pat my shoulder.
“She’s safe,” he says.
I nodded and exhaled the fear that had gripped my whole being.“I need to get going.” I race out the door, calling my driver to take me to the Airport. Patrick was probably making plans the moment the phone rang. I look at my watch; the last twenty minutes were the worst in my life. Getting in the elevator, I exhale a ton of emotions while texting Patrick.
Me: Get Dr Collins to check on my wife.
PA: On it and the pilot is ready and waiting.
Me: Thank you.
It’s been a month since I told Bruce to keep watch on Anu. I knew something was off. Sean couldn’t return right after the fire and they kept changing the security guys, who the building vetted. And Bruce did a check on all and found nothing, because he had no criminal record and wasn’t violent. His only target was my wife.
He wasn’t after Anu because he was obsessed with her. He was after her because he wanted to punish Derin for buying his father’s company at a fraction of the cost. When he couldn’t get to Derin, he figured Anu would be the best way to hurt Derin and her dad.
His plan of setting the studio building on fire worked. It was to get Sean out of the way, and he could get in. So, he could be sure of when she was in the building, and he could attack her.
Because I had told Bruce to be discreet, he had no idea of their connection to Anu, thank God, Jordan had given Bruce access to the units next to the studio, so Bruce’s guys could watch every time Anu was in the building and apprehend the guy. He’s a dead man, something I must keep from my wife for now. I get to the airport and board the flight.
Chapter 81
Anu-Ms K
Two hours after that incident. I’m still in shock until we arrive at the clinic Daniel had asked Jordan to take me to. He’s called several times to check on my pain level, but there’s no pain. I’m just numb. Daniel’s friend is gentle. He examined me and said I need to rest, then he checked the baby and paused, making me wonder if something was indeed wrong.
“How far along are you?”
“About ten weeks,” I say.
He continues to check, and I can’t tell why he’s keeping quiet. Daniel rushes into the room like a storm. He ignores the doctor and comes to hold me tight. I tremble and start to cry in his arms.
“I got you, Princess,” he whispers.
He pulls from the hug and wipes my tears.
