“Okay. He’s going to be fine, right?”
“I hope so. The fire department put the fire out and everyone is out. The studio wasn’t affected, just some floors in the building were affected.”
“Okay, I’ll stay home. And, please, keep me updated on Sean.”
“I will.”
I turn to Daniel. He pulls me into a hug. I know what he’s thinking. I would have been in the building too had he not taken too long to question my doctor.
He’s too quiet.
Chapter 78
Daniel
The moment Anu said she was going to rest and I noticed she was asleep, I made a call to Bruce.
“Hey,” he answers.
“I need you to look into something for me. Might be nothing or just my paranoia.”
“What’s wrong?”
“When I moved in with Anu, one of the things she said was she thought someone was following her, and I asked you look into it, and so did her brother and you both didn’t seem to find anything.”
“Correct.”
“A few weeks ago, there was fire in the building. She wasn’t home because, at the last minute, she decided to spend the night at Jordan’s place.
“Correct.”
“Guess what. Jordan just called saying there was fire in the studio building. She was supposed to be there, but she canceledbecause I was questioning her doctor about her condition. Let’s just say I had a lot of questions, and I wasn’t in a hurry.”
“Do you think they are connected?” he asks
“I don’t know, but both times, if she had stayed on schedule, she would have been in both buildings. At this point, I don’t think it’s coincidental. I want round the clock guards on her. I don’t want her to know; keep it tight and discreet.”
“That would be hard to do when she goes inside the studio, but we’ll see how we can get close.”
“Is she okay, though, with the pregnancy and all?”
“She’s fine. I’m the one worried.”
“Good. And, please, call me when she makes her pastries.”
“Not you too! Bye.”
“Alright. I’ll keep you updated.”
Chapter 79
Anu-Ms K
Jordan and I haven’t had much to do in the studio lately. We’ve all gone to visit Sean in the hospital, luckily his burns weren’t severe but he’s still going to be out for a while. The security company hasn’t been able to find a permanent person for the position, so a few new faces have come around.
Daniel is of course not too happy about that and keeps calling Jordan every time I go over there, plus Zack must walk me up. Jordan has increased security at the entry way; into the studio, you couldn’t just swipe a card anymore. Each person has a unique passcode, or someone inside lets you in.
There’s one security guy that has come over repeatedly, but he always frowns at me. He looks at me with disgust; I’ve learned not to speak to him and just follow the protocol with Zack and go in.
