I smile, and we both focus on the game.
It goes by fast, and by the time the buzzer sounds, the Thunder have won 3-0.Declan waves as he skates to the players’ box, and I wave back.I realize I should have asked him what the plan was for after the game.
Standing with the rest of the crowd, I make my way out of the rink.I pause at the door, looking toward the locker room doors, but I know I won’t be able to get back there without my badge, so I head out to my car.
“Elle!Wait,” someone calls as I open my car door.
I turn to see Declan rushing toward me, his hair still wet from a shower.
“Hey.”
“Hey.Great game.Congrats.”
“Thanks. So, what happened?”he asks, nodding at my clothes.
“I was laid off. Most of the staff was.”
His brow creases with concern.“And… how do you feel about that?”
“Sad, but I think it was for the best.”
“For sure,” he agrees.
The car next to me backs out into traffic, and I shift.“I should go.”
“Come to my place.”
“You’re not too tired?”I ask, teasing him slightly.
“Elle,” he growls.“I’m never too tired to fuck you until you scream.”
“Promises, promises,” I sigh.
He growls again, leaning down to kiss my neck.“Let’s go,” he orders.
“I’ll follow you.”
He kisses me hard and fast before jogging to his car.I get in mine and pull into the line of traffic leaving the stadium. When I reach Declan’s house, I pull into the driveway next to his car, wondering how he beat me home as I climb out.
“Hey, come in.”
Inside, I shrug out of my coat and toe off my boots.
“Are you hungry?”Declan asks.
“Starved.”
“I ordered pizza.”
“Ham and mushroom?”
“And pepperoni.”
“Thanks.”
“What did you do today?”he asks as we sit on his couch.
“Packed up my desk and looked for a new job.”
