And there they were.
Cameron’s body pressed over hers on the bed, his hand cupping her neck, the other shoved up her shirt. Gavin’s pulse hammered at the sight, his vision blurring. His hand—her shirt—on her body—someone else’s fucking hands.
Gavin didn’t think. He didn’t pause. He just opened the door inside of him, the door holding the building rage back for the past few months, and let it fly. He crossed the room in two strides, grabbed the back of Cameron’s shirt, and yanked him off like dead weight. Cameron hit the floor hard, rolling, but he didn’t have time to get his bearings before Gavin’s boot slammed into his ribs.
The grunt of pain was like music to his ears. He had every intention of hearing more.
Ebony’s scream cut through the air. “Gavin!”
Gavin ignored her. The tenuous grip he held over his anger for months now as Cameron tested his patience time and time again finally snapped.
Cameron lunged up, swinging. Gavin had to give him credit, he recovered fast. Cameron’s fist connected with Gavin’s jaw, snapping his head sideways, but the pain didn’t even register. It made him smile. Gavin swung back. Hard. His fist drove into Cameron’s face. Once. Again. Blood spattered from beneath his knuckles. He sent a third punch fast and brutal. He wanted to crush him. Break something that would never heal right.
“You touched her,” Gavin’s voice was low, like cold steel as he straddled his friend. It hardly sounded like his own. "I warned you. I fucking told you what I would do to you."
Another punch.
“You knew. You knew exactly what I said. What I meant," he growled.
Cameron spat blood, and laughed despite the sharp hitch of his breath. He wore an almost maniacal grin and expression he had never seen on his friend. “Yeah. And I did it anyway,” he shot back. "Why do you think you run everything? Her, our friends, everyone in this town? How many times do I need to tell you. You don't fucking control me!"
The edges of Gavin’s vision tightened. He reached for Cameron, easily blocking his defensive hands away and wrapped his hand around Cameron’s throat.
“I’ll end you,” he vowed. And he would. He would choke the life out of him on his own floor.
Then he heard her. Not a scream. No hysterics.
Just her voice, a quiet desperation cutting through the blood haze. “Gavin, please stop.”
Gavin froze. Her fingers were digging into his arms as she knelt beside him, looking up at him with tear-stained cheeks. His chest heaved, his pulse pounding in his neck as he looked at her.
Herbreathing was uneven, but her eyes—they were filled with anger and fear.
It felt like volts of electricity slamming into his system. His hand opened, releasing Cameron’s throat. Cameron rolled away, coughing, one hand clutching his ribs.
Gavin stood slowly, his entire body wired tight, his breathing ragged. He ignored her damning gaze and pointed to Cameron and waited for him to look at him. “Touch her again, and I’ll make sure you never use those hands for anything else.”
He didn’t say anything to Ebony, he just watched as she tried to comfort Cameron until he was standing on his feet. With his pride hurt and anger no doubt coursing through him, he told her not to worry about him, silently asking her to leave. Gavin walked out behind her, escorting her back to his truck, his nerves like frayed live wires as he watched her back.
They made it to the street before she whirled around. His breath caught in his chest at the fury written on her face. Incandescent rage like none he had ever seen on her the entire time he had ever known her. Sadness, anger, happiness, excitement, even fear but never once rage.
"H-how could you ever do that to him? He’s your friend. How could you do that to me?" she whispered, but she didn’t wait for an answer. "I'm done with you Gavin. I mean it. I’m done."
