“Yuh good bredda?” he asks in an inquisitive tone.

I chuckle and say, “Yah.”

“Mhmm… yuh affi Gov man,” he chuckles, now putting a bag of honey roasted peanut at his head, hiding his smile.

I look ahead with a smile too.

“Why mi affi Gov?” I ask now looking at him and he walks around the front and get in the passenger side.

“You affi Gov cause yuh full a hickey bredgrin,” he says and I start smiling. He puts the peanut at his head again and the crunchy sound makes me hold my hand out.

Begging is something I don’t practice or do but Junior and I rock differently.

I know you don’t see me around him much but we understand each other and we have a bond. We have the type of relationship where we don’t have to call or hang out everyday to show our love but if we need each other we’re ready.

He curses at me. “You beg too much youth.”

I laugh, still holding out my hand then he smiles and hand the bag to me.

I throw out a few in my palm before I start eating it. As I chew it Junior takes out his phone.

I hand it back to him and he takes it.

Rick and Gutta are leaning on the car, talking about some girl from back road. Well, Gutta is doing the talking, Rick is laughing as usual.

“A which gyal that?” I poke my head out.

“You member the gyal Jody weh used to deh with every man weh used to go a primary wid we?” Rick asks and I start nodding.

We start laughing.

“Back road muma deh now enuh dawg,” Rick laughs then Gutta cause us to laugh more.

“Wid eh ensure,” he adds.

I laugh again.

When the laughter dies down and they resume their convo I look at Junior.

“Mi wah touch pan the beach Sunday enuh, wah you think?” Junior asks. That nuh sound bad.

“Mi nuh have nothing plan fi Sunday still so that can gwaan yes,” I tell him.

“Yeah man.”

“Mi a ask the man dem wah dem think,” I say and he nods. “That alright?” I ask since I don’t know if he only wants Suzanne and Zara along with us.

“Just we and the woman them?” I ask.

“No man the inner gang,” he retorts.

I look outside. “Yow wah unuh think bout beach Sunday?” I ask interrupting their conversation.

They grin.

“Over Lime Cay?” Rick asks and I nod.

“Yah,” I say then they start talking about the last time they went there and how bad the fish and festival was.
