“Help feed,” I tell him as I point to the kitchen.
His expression turns understanding. “Ah, I see. My boy wants to stick to the plan. We can do that. Come on then.”
With some adjusting, he gets me in his arms and over to the kitchen counter. I sit watching him as he starts getting everything he needs to feed me. I don’t even pay attention to what it is. I trust him to know what I want.
That’s the good thing about falling for your best friend. He already knows so much about me. It’s how I know he’s the best person to fill the role as Daddy in my Little life.
When he puts a plate in front of me a few minutes later, I can’t help but smile. The pancakes with silly faces made from chocolate chips are delicious and cute.
“Thank you, Daddy!”
“You’re welcome, baby. Eat up. After breakfast, I figured we could go play in the snow for a bit since there’s so much. How do you feel about building a snowman with me?”
Instead of answering, I pick up a pancake and shove it in my mouth. I chew quickly, excited to get playtime with Daddy like this.
Best surprise Christmas vacation ever!
CHAPTER 9
Bram
Eddie loses it the second I mention going outside to play. My boy is always eager to try new things, and this is no different.
It’s a struggle to get him into enough layers for me not to worry over his health. With this much snow, he needs all the extra insulation. He’s tiny enough as it is. His body can’t possibly produce enough heat to counteract that wind and frost.
“I can barely move my arms, Daddy,” he tells me with humor in his voice.
Nodding, I tug at the front of his coat once more. “That’s ok, Eddie Baby. I’ll do all the building. You can be the boss if you can’t help.”
His eyes light up. If there’s one thing he loves, it’s getting to coordinate and boss people around. I usually go with the flow because I know how much he loves it. My natural inclination is to take control, yet I don’t feel the need with him as much. It’s somehow easier to spoil him than argue for my point.
Besides, he usually decides to do things I enjoy as well. Really, all of it is enjoyable so long as he’s happy.
“Daddy!”
I snap to attention at his shout. “Yes, baby?”
“You weren’t listening,” he replies with a pout.
Laughing, I lean forward to kiss his lips gently, then I take his gloved hands to drag him outside. He waddles behind me, the layers making it difficult for him.
When we step outside, his eyes go wide. I’d cleared enough space to get us off the porch and into the thick of it. Even with what I’d done while he ate, there’s still mountains of snow piled around us.
“How do we start?” I ponder aloud.
Rather than answer me, my boy tugs his hand free and spins in a circle. I smile as I see his Little side rise to the surface. It’s easy enough to spot with how his body relaxes and his eyes sparkle more than ever.
He’s always beautiful and fun to be around. Little Eddie is another level altogether.
“Daddy lookie!”
I’m already watching him, but he doesn’t have a clue since he’s focused on the snow around us. He stops spinning, his body teetering side to side from his obvious dizziness.
“Silly baby,” I say as I step up to stabilize him.
Before I can reach him, he tumbles back, arms wide. I nearly panic thinking he’s hurt. It’s the wide smile on his face as he disappears into the piles of snow that clues me in to things.
He’s not hurt. He’s playing.
