As the sun dipped behind the snow-dusted trees, Ethan took her hand.“You know… I think we make a pretty great team,” he said softly.

Sophie squeezed his hand, smiling.“The best team,” she agreed.

And as they walked home together, shoulder to shoulder, snowflakes drifting around them, Sophie knew that this was just the beginning — a lifetime of shared melodies, laughter, and love, waiting to be written.

Winter in Crestwood had given her music, magic, and him — and for the first time, Sophie Morgan felt completely at home.

Silent Danger

Chapter 1:

Shadows in the Gallery

The rain slicked streets of Eastbrook gleamed under the dim glow of streetlights. Harper Lane hurried along, clutching her coat tight against the cold, the sound of her heels echoing off the empty buildings.

She had just left the opening of the new art exhibit — a showcase she’d dreamed of curating for years — but something about tonight felt off. The crowd had been polite, admiring, yet Harper couldn’t shake the feeling that someone had been watching her, lingering too long near her display.

She shook her head and quickened her pace. The gallery’s windows reflected shadows that didn’t belong to her. A chill ran down her spine as she noticed a figure across the street, partially hidden beneath the brim of a hat.

“Who’s there?” she called, her voice wavering slightly.

The figure didn’t respond, just tilted their head slightly, disappearing behind a corner. Harper’s heart beat faster. She told herself it was nothing — Eastbrook had its share of night wanderers — but the unease lingered.

She reached her apartment building and fumbled with her keys, only to feel a presence behind her. Harper spun around, and a man stepped from the shadows. Tall, dark-haired, with an intensity in his eyes that made her catch her breath.

“I didn’t mean to scare you,” he said, voice low and controlled.“But I think you’re in danger.”

Harper’s brow furrowed.“Danger? Who are you?”

“Someone who knows more than I should,” he replied.“And someone who won’t leave you alone if you don’t listen to me.”

Before she could respond, a sharp sound — like glass breaking — echoed from the street behind her. Harper’s heart raced as she realized her quiet evening had just turned into something far more dangerous.

And in that moment, staring into his stormy eyes, she knew one thing for certain: this stranger was both a threat and a promise, and Harper Lane’s life was about to change forever.

Chapter 2:

Clues in the Dark

Harper’s hands trembled slightly as she closed her apartment door behind her, the stranger’s warning echoing in her mind.

“I’m Ethan,” he said again, standing just inside the doorway.“I know it’s sudden, but you’re being followed. Someone doesn’t want you to see the gallery tonight — or the painting you were curating.”

Harper’s breath hitched.“Why me? I just… I just wanted to showcase the art. I don’t understand.”

Ethan’s dark eyes softened slightly.“It’s not just about the art. That painting contains something someone wants hidden. And now, you’re involved whether you like it or not.”

Harper’s pulse quickened. She took a step back, instinctively scanning the street through the window. Nothing. Too quiet. Too calm.

“You need to trust me,” Ethan said, stepping closer, his presence commanding yet protective. Harper felt an inexplicable pull toward him, a mixture of fear and curiosity that made her heart race.
