Ashley laughed, “Yep.”
“Why have you donethis to me?”
“At least you can sit back with some popcorn and enjoy the show. I have to be in the middle of it.”
“That’s true. I can’t believe Emily got out of this.”
“Conveniently, she has to work all weekend. We both know it’s because she can’t be away from her newobsession.”
Emily had recently been promoted to Executive Assistant to the CEO. As far as personal assistants go, she was now at the top of the food chain, working closely with a powerful, strong-minded, multi-millionaire—a job she relished. The hours had naturally extended—with more money comes more responsibility. Throw in the mix a new girlfriend and Emily wasunavailable.
“Do you think this one will last?” Madison asked.
“It’s only been three months, so I won’t hold my breath, but who knows? She seems pretty hooked.”
“I like her though, sheseems nice.”
“It’s the Spanish for you, isn’t it?”
“Maybe.” Madison bit her lip. “How can you not find the accentattractive?”
“You need to start finding your own girls.” Ashley teased.
“We all know I am about as useless as a wooden frying pan when it comes to finding theright girl.”
Laughter erupted from Ashley. The driver looked in disgust through the rear-view mirror.
“A woodenfrying pan?”
“I am!”
“Well, I’m not much better. I mean, you’re accompanying me to my sister’s baby shower instead of a smoking hot date—that says it all.”
“That’s rude. Shall we pick up Georgina along the way?” Madison smirked.
“We agreed not to mention that nameever again.”
“That was until you insinuated I wasn’t smoking hot.”
Ashley glanced at her phone. “Speak ofthe devil.”
“Is she still trying to get you back?”
“Pretty much.”
“Well, look how the tables have turned. I bet it feels good, doesn’t it?” Madison adjusted her posture to sit angled towards Ashley.
“Do you want my honest answer?” Madison nodded. “It feels fucking great.”
“What is she saying? It’s literally beentwo months.”
Ashley unlocked her phone and read out snippets of the last few text messages that had goneunanswered.
“Can we try and work things out? I miss you. Why are you ignoring me? Stop ignoring me. I heard a song on the radio, it reminds me of you. I’m sorry. Blahblah blah.”
“Nothing new then?”
“Nope. She just doesn’t get it. Although, Jason told me he’d seen her out with some guy last week. She’s definitely dating other people. She just doesn’t like the fact that I was the one whodumped her.”
