“I’m just going to grab a tray of ice cubes and that jockey’s riding crop, and I’ll meet you in there.”

Nick’s smolder was so intense she was surprised she hadn’t caught fire yet. “I’m so turned on and happy right now I don’t even remember what it feels like to be grumpy,” he confessed.

“Hurry,” she said, pushing him in the direction of his office.

Nick sprinted into the crowd and pumped his fists in the air. “Best birthday ever!”

Everyone who wasn’t actively making out on the dance floor cheered.

Sesame rose on tiptoe and whispered something in Tommy’s helmet-covered ear.

He raised his visor. “Did you say you wanted my clock or my—”

“The second one,” Sesame said, biting her lower lip seductively.

“Yippy!”

She pointed toward Nick’s office, and they watched as Tommy sprinted through the crowd.

“Your turn, Jas,” Riley said, nodding at Kellen.

He was taking deep breaths and muttering to himself. “10-56: intoxicated pedestrian. 10-68: livestock in roadway.”

“Hey there, Detective,” Jasmine purred. She sauntered up to him, swinging her cat tail like a whip. “Wanna play with my tail?”

Kellen gave up reciting response codes and took a threatening step toward her. “Stop talking. Stop looking at me. Stop breathing. And stop smelling so good.”

“You can’t tell me what to do,” Jasmine snapped, her eyes flashing fire as she closed the distance between them.

They were standing toe-to-toe until Kellen moved forward, backing her against the wall. “I. Just. Did.”

“I want to slap you so hard your face spins around to the back of your head,” she hissed.

“I detest you,” he responded.

“Back at you, Detective Dick,” Jasmine said, sharpening the emphasis on the worddick.

Kellen’s nostrils flared, and Riley decided to look at the ceiling on the off chance that she ever wanted to make eye contact with the man again.

“Okay. I’m into some kinky shit. But this is weird even to me,” Josie observed.

“We need a fire hose,” Riley agreed.

Without warning, Jasmine pushed away from the wall and started to walk away.

“Where are you going?” Kellen demanded.

“I’m going to go into Nick’s office to open his mail,” she said, tossing her long dark hair over her shoulder.

“That’s an obstruction of correspondence,” Kellen said. His face suddenly contorted, and he let out a giggle.

“Did he just teeheehee?” Josie asked.

“Oh, that’s really bad,” Riley said.

“Yeah. So bad,” Sesame agreed sadly.

Jasmine was unfazed. “What are you gonna do about it, cop?” She blew him a kiss that ended with a middle finger and disappeared into the crowd. Kellen waited all of half a second before chasing after her. They could hear him giggling as he went.
