“Umm...no.Not really.I bought the magazine on an ice cream run late one night.I don’t know why I did.Maybe I wanted to learn...business.”
“Is that so?”Tylan drawls.
I shake my head instead of committing yet another lie.The cycle is now vicious.I want it to end.
“So you decided to be fictitiously engaged to all three of us?”
“I did.It seemed like you came as a...as a package,” I say lamely.“Look,” I add livelier, “I need to end this.It was a lie.I made it up.It was so far-fetched it would have worked. And you wouldn’t even have known that some weird girl made up some story about you.
“But why are you here? How do you know?I’m a nobody, and you are world-famous billionaires. Our paths were never meant to cross—not in any lifetime.”
“Our grandmother has an in-depth global spy system when it comes to us and our love lives,” Cove offers.
“A cab driver overheard your mom talking about it, and from there it went through several channels before it reached our grandmother,” Rafe says.
“Oh,” I say, defeated.“Dammit, I should have just picked Walter.”
“Who’s Walter?”Cove asks.
“My neighbor. He’s seventy-seven and still looks good in a suit.”
They chuckle, and the sound goes straight to my core, still wet even after showering, still living in the moment when they touched me.Also, where are my panties?
But why am I so pathetic?Thirty in a few years and still a damn virgin. What am I doing? What is wrong with me?Why do I always run away from any kind of physical relationship?I need to change, but first, I need to handle this situation right now.
“Okay, then.So now you know it’s all lie.Just not anything deeply nefarious, so you have nothing to worry about.I’m just a stupid girl who didn’t want to have to sit through holidays with everyone feeling sorry for her as I already explained. You explained how you got to be here.I’m sure you thought it was some sort of security risk which I get being who you are.But we can part way here, and I’ll have to tell everyone I made it all up.Gentlemen, goodnight,” I add, nodding and heading toward the door.I’ll be sleeping in my closet tonight.
But just as I’m about to leave, Cove wraps his hand around my arm and brings me flush against his body.
“You still haven’t honestly answered the question. Why us, Ms.Miller.Why did you choose us?”
