No screams leave my mouth, exhaustion crashes in, as the guard and wrap handcuffs around my hands.

My eyes look for one person.

Eliane,my Honey.

My heart does a stutter as I watch a slim girl, with short, golden hair run away.

I don’t put up a fight as the guards drag me away and tell me what they are taking me for.

“You and the heir will be put in the dungeons, according to the rulebook of Drimyé, for the murder of King Chadd Malik Dunkeld.”

Chapter 43

Eliane

Guilt trembles through my chivvied veins. I can feel our bond shimmer somewhere, but I can’t reach him. My body is too weak to link the connection. I get up on my legs and I do the one thing I promised Da I would when things would go down.

I turn around, wanting to look at those dimples one more time.

The king lays there dead.

Two guards grab Brax and Zephron by surprise. Normally, he would put up a fight, except nothing about this situation is normal. I watch him while reality kicks in. His eyes meet mine, and despite the rage in them, his eyes smile at me. His mask slips for a split second, but it is enough for me to see the sadness written all over his face.

He is arrested for murdering his father.

Hazel is dead.

My dad is dead.

I am going to run from the one person I love that is left.

I am free, finally.

I turn around and run.

I run away from everything, my whole life.

I run away from him.

I run until my leg gives out and my body starts to feel limp.

And I don’t look back.

Epilogue

Two days later

Braxton

A loud bang on the door wakes my brother up.

I am awake and clear, trying to find Eliane somewhere in my mind.

I can’t find her.

Radio silence.

Sometimes, I feel her shimmering on our bond softly, and I keep in mind that she does that to let me know she is alive.
