“Isn’t adorable good?”
“No. Adorable is a death blow to the ego. If you want to ensure I never feel manly again, call me adorable one more time.”
A wicked grin spreads across my face. Challenge accepted. “Adorable,” I say, my hand already moving to his belt. “Adorable.” I brush my fingers against him. “Adorable, adorable. Ador?—”
He silences me with a kiss, his tongue invading my mouth and stopping my teasing. Within seconds, his body responds to my touch.
“Damn it, Cora, you’re driving me crazy.”
“That’s the idea,” I whisper back, my lips brushing against his. “All’s adorable in love and war.”
His eyes widen. “You’re getting bold, Little Trouble.”
“Home is where the adorable is,” I continue with a smile on my face. “Adorable is in the eye of the beholder?”
“I’m going to fuck that sassy mouth of yours.”
Oh God, yes, please. But I’m not done teasing him yet. “You’ll have to catch me first.” I spring from his arms and start running, darting into the bedroom and locking the door. My heart races, a mix of excitement and arousal coursing through me. My eyes dart around. There’s nowhere to hide.
Ryder pounds on the door, the wood shaking in its frame. “Open the door, Little Trouble.”
“No,” I call back, breathless. “You won’t catch me.” I don’teven know why I ran from him, but damn if I don’t love this game.
He stops pounding. I catch my breath and approach the door, trying to listen to what’s happening outside. Did he give up? Is that it? I’m so turned on that I think I’ll combust the moment he touches me.
I press my ear to the door, straining to hear.
“Looking for something?”
The voice comes from behind me, and I spin around, screaming.
Ryder stands by the window. “You can scream all you want. There’s no one here to hear you.” He grins, leaning on his arms as he climbs in.
I scream again, flinging the door open and fleeing outside.
The cool night air hits my flushed skin as I exit the cabin. I could run into the forest, but I’d likely get lost or hurt myself. Instead, I dash behind the car and crouch down, my heart pounding.
“Where are you, Little Trouble? Where’s that dirty little mouth?”
I cover my mouth to stifle my heavy breathing, arousal pooling between my thighs.
His footsteps draw closer, crunching on the gravel. I circle the car, moving to the other side so he can’t see me. When he’s far enough away, I make a break for it, running back into the house.
He growls and chases after me.
I shriek and try to close the door, but he’s too fast. Before I can shut it, he pushes his way in, a predatory look in his eyes that makes my knees weak.
God, I’m going to come on the spot.
I back away as he advances until my back hits the wall.
“Oh, Little Trouble,” he says as he closes the distance between us, his voice low and husky. “You’re going to pay for this.”
He grabs me by the waist and hoists me over his shoulder.
I squeal again, pounding on his back.
He throws me onto the bed, the mattress bouncing beneath me, and climbs on top of me. His eyes are dark, pupils dilated with lust.
