He lets out a chuckle. “Sorry.”
“Will you help me?”
He nods. “What do you need?”
“Just stand next to me. I’ll hand you the products, and you place them where I ask. That’s all.”
“That’s all?”
“Yes.” I flash him a wide smile and bend deep, making sure my ass faces him.
I straighten up and hand him a silver candlestick.
He swallows hard, his eyes wide and dark. He looks like he’s about to devour me.God, I so wish he would.
“Put the candlestick on the side table.” I point to the small table next to the sofa.
I wait for him to return, then bend over again. I attempt to remove another item from the box, but bump into Ryder who is standing behind me.
He groans.
“Are you okay?” I grin.
He nods, his jaw clenched tight.
“Can you help me lift it? It’s heavy.”
Ryder bends down and lifts the glass sphere as if it weighs nothing.
“Careful,” I request, placing my hand on his. “Put it on the table.”
He places the container where I asked. I squeeze between him and the table, my body pressing against his as I straighten the container next to the vase. “Great. Thank you.”
Ryder’s face is flushed, and I send him a sweet smile.
“Are you doing this on purpose, Little Trouble?” He narrows his eyes.
“Doing what?”
He exhales. “How many more items like this are there?”
“Two. Why? Too heavy for a big guy like you? Do you need a relaxing massage?”
“We agreed this can’t happen.”
“No.” I pout. “You said it can’t happen. I never agreed.”
My phone rings.
I glance at the screen. It’s the girls, their faces squished together in a video conference call. I move away from Ryder, his eyes burning into my back, and slide the button.
“So, where are we throwing your epic birthday bash?” Bailey shouts, her voice echoing through the room.
Ryder raises an eyebrow.
“If you want to stay longer, we can come to you!” Riley bursts in, her face taking up half the screen. “Hell, I deserve a vacation. I need a vacation. We all need a vacation!”
“Hey, it’s her birthday,” Jill interjects, pushing Riley aside. “Don’t make it about your desperate need for a tan.”
