‘Alex,’ Quinn breathed, his voice choked.

She wrapped her arms around him, holding him close. This was everything she wanted and needed it to be and everything she’d been wanting to avoid.

He kissed her hard as he started moving against her faster. His hand snaked up to her breast and the feel of his touch made her breath catch in her throat. She ran her hand over his bare, muscly shoulders, stroking down his back and back up to touch his hair, and he groaned against her lips. That feeling in her stomach that had started to fade was already building again, tingles turning into fireworks that were exploding through her body. She clung to him and he pulled back to look at her with such love in his eyes and she knew she would never love another man as much as she loved him. It was that realisation that sent her soaring, shouting out his name and trembling in his arms.

Alex was lying on Quinn’s sofa as he lay half on top of her, kissing her like his life depended on it. There was a part of her that knew she needed to get up and run away from this because with every kiss, every touch she was falling for him even more. But the part of her that was in complete heaven lying here in his arms far outweighed the other part.

Sex had never been like that with Liam. She felt alittle guilty comparing the two because sex with Liam had always been lovely but with Quinn it had been so much more. She didn’t know why but it had been without doubt the best sex she’d ever had.

He pulled back to look at her and she stroked his face. ‘I need to go soon, I don’t want Zara to get back home and find I’m not there.’

He nodded. ‘I’ll drive you back.’

‘There’s no need, it’s only a two-minute walk up the hill.’

‘There is no way I’m letting you go home alone.’

He got up and started getting dressed and she had the pleasure of watching his gloriously naked body.

‘How was the sex?’ Quinn asked, arching an eyebrow at her as if he knew it was the blow-your-socks-off kind.

‘Rubbish.’ She got up and slipped her arms round his neck and he wrapped his arms round her waist.

‘Is that so?’

‘Yeah, which is a good thing, I couldn’t possibly fall in love with someone who makes love like a floundering fish.’

He smirked. ‘A fish?’

‘Yeah, when it’s ended up on dry land and it’s flapping around, it was like that.’

‘That does sound bad.’

‘Yes it was, but after I’ve Christmasified your house tomorrow and all the elves have gone, you can have another go at improving your technique if you like. Practice makes perfect after all.’

‘I think that sounds like a very good idea. I’m probably going to need lots of practice if I’m that bad.’

She nodded. ‘I’m quite happy to help you, that’s what friends do.’

‘You’re very kind.’

‘I know, it’s very selfless of me. Just so you know, I won’t be enjoying it.’

She was already feeling excited about what the night would hold.

‘I appreciate your sacrifice.’ He kissed her again and she felt herself melt against him.

She pulled back to look at him and couldn’t help smiling happily at him.

‘Are we OK?’ Quinn asked, stroking her face.

‘Of course.’ She tried to push down her fears, she was too happy right now to want to face them.

‘Do you want to talk to me about what you’re feeling?’

She sighed. She didn’t want to talk about this at all. She wanted to continue pretending it was rubbish or at least that it was something casual. She didn’t want to think about her fears for the future or that if they continued down this path she would have to tell him the truth about the night Liam died. She wanted to bury her head in the sand and forget all of that.

She looked down so she wouldn’t have to look him in the eye. ‘I think we both know that was a lot more significant than we were expecting,’ she said, quietly.
