“I can’t give you what you need,” he growls then seems to catch himself, his gaze softening. “I can’t, Faye. I’m sorry, but I just can’t.”
My heart feels like it’s breaking, yet the look in his eyes tells me that this is hurting him even more than me.
“Cole!” Damon bellows. “Ren! Laz!”
Seconds later, Cole dashes through, eyes wide and on full alert like he’s been awake for hours. Ren follows close behind. There’s no sign of Laz yet, so I’m guessing he can sleep through anything.
“What’s wrong?” Cole asks, before freezing on the spot as he sniffs the air.
“Get her away from me.” Damon shoves me into Ren’s arms like I’m diseased.
“Bring the car round, Frank.” Cole’s already talking into his phone. “We need to go to the cabin. Now.”
“What’s all the…?” Laz strolls in wearing loose, gray sweats, detailing his erection. “This is really happening, isn’t it?”
“I can’t stop it this time,” I pant, unable to slow my breathing. “My patch isn’t working.”
“I’m sure I’ve read something about this.” Ren scratches his head. “She’s been in our space for so long, it must have brought her heat on. With scent matches, a true heat can’t be stopped.”
“It’ll be okay, Faye.” Cole sounds much calmer than he looks. “We’re going to take you to a cabin, somewhere private and safe. Assuming you want us to help you through this?”
“Yes.” I nod. “Please. Don’t leave. I need you—all of you—with me.” I swallow past the anxiety threatening to suffocate me. Although a heat is starting, I’m still lucid enough to consent. However, I’ll soon be lost to my urges craving their knots. “I want your help. But you should know that I’ve never been in heat with alphas or been with anyone for that matter, so I don’t know what I’m doing.”
“We’ll get you through this, baby.” Ren holds me tight. “We’ll do whatever you need us to.”
“Are you sure, Faye?” Cole bends to make eye contact with me. “This is really what you want?”
“What’re you going to do, make her sign a contract?” Laz harrumphs. “She’s already said that this is what she wants.”
“I need to be sure she knows what she’s asking,” Cole insists firmly.
“I know what I’m asking for,” I moan. “But I don’t know how much longer it’ll be before I lose control of myself. You’re my scent matches. This feels right.”
Seeing that Damon’s already heading for the door, Laz runs past him.
“Come on, man.” Laz blocks his path. “You can’t go. Not now. You heard our omega. She needs us. The entire pack.”
“I can’t be here,” Damon gets in Laz’s face, hissing. “You know that.”
“You’re part of the Silverwood Pack, Damon,” Cole barks. Although an alpha’s bark only has the power to influence an omega, it still carries a lot of weight when used by the pack leader. “If Faye wants you here, you’re staying. That’s an order.”
“Fine, I’ll stay.” Damon throws up his arms. “But I’m staying outside the nest.”
That’s progress. At least he’ll be close by since I can’t handle the thought of him being far away.
“It hurts.” I clutch my stomach. It feels like flames are burning me from the inside out. “Please, make it stop.”
“I’ll call Sabs,” Laz murmurs, paling. “The Stellas need to know what’s happening.”
“Frank’s already outside,” Cole announces as headlights shine through the door window. “Everything is ready in the cabin.”
“I’m scared, Ren,” I whisper so only he can hear.
“You’re going to be okay.” He feathers his knuckles down my cheek, soothing me. “We’ll take care of you.”
I’ve always been wary of alphas and putting my trust in these men is terrifying, but what other choice do I have?
