She takes a few moments to think it over and nods. “Okay, I’ll go see your boyfriend play tonight.”

“Let’s hope he’s still my boyfriend.” I wrap my arms around her shoulders and give her a hug. “Do you want to follow me or ride with me?”

“I’ll follow that way I can leave early to get ready before class.”

“Sounds like a plan.” Both of us return to our classmates, watching the last person make their drink. My phone vibrates in my pocket and I pull it out to see who it is.

Eric

I think they might get started earlier than they planned.

Lisa

Okay. We’re almost done here and I’ll be on my way.

Eric

I was wrong about him. And whatever happened y’all need to fix it. He looks miserable.

Lisa

That’s the plan.

I feel horrible that I’ve made him feel that way. Eric could be exaggerating, but I doubt he is. Especially if Devin feels the same way I do. These past couple of days have been brutal. As much as I’ve wanted to stay home and wallow in my self-pity, I couldn’t. Now, I’m glad I didn’t. There’s a plan forming in my head, and I fully intend on carrying it out.

My phone dings again.

Delilah

You’re coming to see Devin play tonight, right?

Lisa

Yes. I’m leaving soon.

Delilah

Hurry. Apparently, someone leaked that CH is here tonight, and the parking lot is filling up.

Lisa

Crap. Okay just make sure there’s enough room in the bar for two people to come in.

Delilah

Who are you bringing? And I hope you know whatever happens between you and my brother, I’m still your friend.

Damn, did we send out a memo about having problems? I haven’t talked to anyone, and I don’t think he has. But we have an awesome circle of friends who know us better than we know ourselves. I purposefully didn’t talk to Del because he’s her brother and I won’t put her in the middle out of respect.

Lisa

It’s the girl I befriended in class. And that means a lot. See you soon.

I put my phone back in my pocket. The last person is done making their drink. Despite the minor problems with some of my classmates, I think we all did a decent job. Even the douchebag. We break down the bar and clean everything up.

Joan follows me out the door. “In case we lose each other in traffic, here’s the address. You are going to love our bar.”

“I’ll see you there.” She waves and climbs into her car.
