“I want to look at you like that forever.”

I leaned in and gave him a quick kiss and watched as Nan and Bert started a new adventure together.

“I was thinking. It would be a shame for you to stay at Nan’s house all by yourself now that she is moving in with Bert.” Scott bumped my shoulder as I walked to my car after the wedding. It had been a beautiful day, but a very long one.

“Hmm, that’s true.” I grinned up at him. “I still have those coupons for the animal shelter. Maybe I should go pick up a puppy.”

Scott frowned. “Hold on.” He picked up his phone and started dialing a number.

“What are you doing?”

“I'm seeing if the animal shelter will do me a favor and turn you down. I’m hoping you'll take me home instead.”

I laughed at his joke as he put away his phone. Then he stopped by the tree where we shared our first kiss. He knelt and grabbed my hand.

“Marissa, you are my sunshine, like sprinkles on cookies. You are unexpected and have turned my life upside down since those flying pumpkins.”

I gasped and put my hand over my mouth as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a little blue velvet box. Oh my gosh, he was proposing!

“You’re as necessary for me as air. I feel like I’m directionless without you. The only plan I want for the rest of my life is one with you in it.” He squeezed my hand. “I beg you, make me the luckiest man alive and be my wife.”

My eyes filled with tears. I loved this man with every part of my heart. I couldn’t wait to see where life would take us. It didn’t even matter where, as long as we were together.

“Marissa, will you marry me?”

“Yes! A thousand times yes!”

Scott rose to his feet and slid the white gold, square-cut diamond ring onto my finger and grabbed my face and kissed me. The crowd cheered. I had no idea everyone was waiting for this to happen. Faith waved as she continued to record.

“I told you it was coming!” Nan hollered as she got into Bert’s car.

I couldn’t stop the tears streaming down my face, and my cheeks hurt from smiling. I was so lucky. Lucky in life, and in love.Lucky that Scott saved me that day from flying pumpkins and started me on my path to finding my happiness. I pulled him closer and kissed him again.

“Here’s to happiness and planning our happily ever after!” I cheered.
