“We’ll talk after breakfast if you feel up to it. But food first.” Ru shoved a plate of eggs and bacon toward Adam. “You eat, okay?”
“Okay.”
“I got your text. You didn’t answer when I called, and your text was weird. I called your dad, who told me what happened. So I got on a plane. Arrived a couple hours ago. Your folks said you were still sleeping, so we stopped at Tommy’s and had a short nap.” He glanced at Tommy and the blonde woman with them.
“Tommy wanted to come too, needs some time away, and he was worried when I told him what happened. And Katie,” he said, motioning to the blonde, “is here to put out fires. Our former bandmate AJ is on a smear crusade against me. And it looks like he’s already got his hands on that photo and is selling it to magazines saying you’re cheating on me.”
“But I’m not!” Adam insisted. “I wouldn’t ever!”
Ru put his finger to Adam’s lips. “Shh, baby. I know. That’s why Katie is here. She’s been talking to your parents about different options. Ways to approach this. Either way, you’re going to be outed as my boyfriend. That is, if you still want to be my boyfriend.”
Adam gripped Ru’s hand with his good left one. “Don’t be stupid. You’re mine.”
“That’s what I keep telling him,” Tommy said.
Adam’s dad reached out to squeeze Adam’s arm. “You let us take care of this. Eat, go spend time with Ru. Once you’re done, we’ll have a plan. Just this once, let us be the grown-ups, okay?”
“Okay.” He glared at his cast, hating that it made it impossible to hold Ru’s hand. The truth was he didn’t want to eat. He didn’t want to run. He just wanted to be wrapped up in Ru’s arms and sleep for the next couple of years. But Ru seemed to have other plans for him.
