Ru shook his head. “We’re over.” But the words made him think back to all the stuff in the papers, all the pictures that kept popping up. No one would care if Kris was calling them in. After all, he was just the guy who jilted some boy-band star. But if they came from AJ, well, that gave them weight. Which was why the story never died. The door opened and half a dozen large security guys were there. “Get him out of here, and be sure he doesn’t get back into the building.”
“Ryunoski, don’t do this. I told you the truth. It was all AJ. Even now, he’s digging up what he can on this new guy so he can put another nail in your social coffin. He’s obsessed with being better than you, and every time you go out in public, people love you more and more.”
“Too little, too late,” Ru said as the guards grabbed Kris and dragged him out. Ru dialed Katie a second later to fill her in.
“Don’t do anything rash,” she told him. “Even if it’s true, it’s in the past.”
“What if AJ really goes after Adam?”
“Let me deal with AJ. Do you want me to file a restraining order against Kris?”
“And AJ.”
“You’re sure about that?”
“Yes.”
“Consider it done.”
When the quiet was restored, he sank down onto the cushy sweetness of his overstuffed couch. “Wow.”
Tommy laughed and plopped himself down next to Ru. “Never realized what a freak that guy was.” They sat in silence for a few minutes. “Do you really think it could have been AJ?”
“Makes sense.”
“Bastard.”
“Agreed.”
They bumped fists. Ru sent Adam a text that said he’d call him late. He would need to make sure if reporters found Adam, they wouldn’t find him without Ru. No way could Adam handle the daily grind of paparazzi hounding his every step.
