Epilogue
DAISY
Two Months Later
This could be a mistake.Honestly, Ethan is the type to shout from the rooftops, so this might be exactly what he would like. I shake my head as I sit back in my seat. I’ve been in my thoughts all day and this has been a hard secret to keep. I found out nearly a week ago and then made a doctor’s appointment to confirm. Okay, so maybe I peed on a dozen sticks in disbelief before making the doctor’sappointment.
Alexa knows, but only because I had to have her help me get the small custom jersey made. I’m sure a couple of people know now, but nobody has said a word if they do. I’ve never asked for help for something like this before.
Hell, I don’t even know who wears the mascot suit for the team. It could be a woman or a man, or maybe there’s a couple of people that take turns. I don’t know.
I haven’t seen the jersey, but Alexa let me know it arrived yesterday. Whiskers is supposed to have it during the third period. Having the mascot help me with the pregnancy announcement seems like the right call. I’m not close to theteam’s ice girls or maybe I could’ve incorporated them too.
Ethan is going to love it. I know him enough to know this is the type of thing that he would shout about anyways. He certainly did my first game back, making a show of pointing out his wife.
It was cute and a little embarrassing. I’m not use to the attention. Well, I wasn’t. My photo and name have thankfully remained out of the gossip articles for the last two months. With the exception of a congrats to the newly weds from the official Lonestar Bobcats accounts that got shared to more of them.
“Whiskers!” I hear a kid from somewhere behind me shout.
I glance over toward the stairs and notice the mascot glance at me and then move closer. A wadded up small jersey in their hand. My eyes move to the clock. Thirty seconds left on the clock and the Bobcats are up seven to four.
Ten seconds.
Whiskers moves to the glass.
Five.
Cheers erupt as the announcer calls out the Lonestar Bobcats’ win on the speakers. It takes a minute for the team to celebrate together, then I notice Ethan skate over to the glass. His sight is on me.
I smile and glance over at Whiskers as they unfold the jersey and hold it up to the glass and start banging on it. I look back at Ethan and point towards Whiskers. It takes him a moment to register before he yanks his helmet off.
“You serious?” He shouts, but I can’t hear him, I just see the words. I nod. His smiles stretches across his face before he shouts about being a dad.
After another moment, eyes are on us and I notice the Jumbotron screen moves from Whiskers holding the little jersey, to Ethan, then me, then the team, and back again.
There’s definitely a lot to celebrate for. I grin and look at my family sitting next to me; they’re all looking at me in disbelief.
“Surprise.” I laugh.
