“Hello Alpha mate, Mrs Fitzwilliams,” both Jacob and Joe said at the same time.
“Call me Aubrey dears.”
“And call me Christine,” she said, walking to Finn and slipping an arm around him before dropping a kiss on his head.
Finn smiled at her and leant into her side.
“Now I hope everyone is making you both feel welcome,” Aubrey said and, without waiting for an answer, looked at Robbie. “How is Jacob’s healing going?”
“Badly,” Jacob replied before Robbie.
“Jacob has a complication with his wound, I’m waiting on test results to see what it is,” Robbie told her.
“Just as well this bed is comfy then, isn’t it? Plus, the food is much better here. Now don’t rush your healing, whatever you need we can bring in here, so you don’t get bored,” Aubrey said.
“Thank you, Alpha mate. I’m sleeping a lot at the moment and have everything I need.”
“It’s Aubrey, dear,” she said, patting his arm. “But it’s very late, I’m too old to be up this late.”
“You’re not old, Mum,” Robbie reassured her, just as Ezzy said, “Yep, so old, ancient in fact.”
“Just for that, dear, I’ll instruct Laura to make you liver and bacon for the next week.”
Ezzy pretended to gag as the others laughed. “Did I say old? I meant spring chicken. Mummy, you wouldn’t be so cruel would you?”
“Sorry, darling, being so old my hearing is going and I didn’t hear a word you said. Night everyone.” And with that Aubrey sailed out of the room.
“Damn, Ez, liver and bacon is harsh,” Robbie said, shaking his head.
Clairmont walked in carrying another tray. “Master Joe, Francis, I have proper food for the both of you.” He walked to the table and put the tray down. “Make sure you eat. If you need anything else, just call me.”
“Thanks, Clairmont, we’ll be fine with all this if you want to get off to bed,” Fran told him.
“I’ll be up for a while. Master Joe, if you follow me, I can show you where your room is, your dinner will stay hot.”
“Thank you.” Joe smiled at the others and left with the butler.
“I’ll leave you alone now as well and see you at breakfast,” Berni said, walking out.
“If you all want to go off to bed, you can, you know,” Jacob said to them.
“We will in a bit.” Robbie picked up a biscuit from the plate and ate it.
“I can’t believe Joe left and came looking for me,” Jacob whispered.
“He’s your friend, a real friend,” Fran said to him.
“If anyone called Nidel turns up, don’t let him in,” Jacob cautioned.
Finn shuddered. “If he comes near me, I’ll shift into my wolf and bite him.”
“I’ll hold him down for you,” Joe said, walking back into the bedroom.
“How much was he sucking up to the new Alpha?” Jacob asked him.
Joe shook his head. “So much, especially when he found out Cresswell has a son the same age as us. Nidel has offered to show him around and look after him.”
“Typical,” Jacob said.
