“Aww, that’s beautiful!” I say with a smile.
“Do you see? She’s got a piece of each of you in her name. F for Finn, E for Ernesto, and L for Liz.”
I place my hand over my heart. “Em… that’s so sweet.”
Finn smiles and Ernesto laughs.
Kel clears his throat. “Yeah… that’s great. Cool. You guys will always be special to her.”
Emerson and Julie exchange looks. “We should really tell you her full name. Faelyn Kelly Reed.”
Kel lifts his head. “Her middle name is Kelly? Like me?” he asks.
“Do you really think I’d forget my best bud?” Emerson asks, handing Faelyn to Kel.
He shifts and straightens his posture, holding her at an uncomfortable angle, but being as gentle as humanly possible.
Gazing down at her face, he smiles. He looks back at us and announces, “You all can suck it. She may have your initials, but she’s got my entire name.”
We laugh and Finn pats Kel on the back.
“We had some great times riding to work. I figured her name would be a way to remember our carpool, how special we are to each other, and as a bonus, carry on our friendship for all eternity.” Emerson grins nostalgically.
I glance at Finn and he shrugs, motioning to Emerson. Ernesto nods his head.
“About that,” I begin, “I guess there’s something you should know.”
