“What is it?” I ask, refusing to let worry cloud this moment.

“I love you.” My mouth drops open slightly, and my eyes widen. I wasn’t expecting him to say it. Not now, even though I was holding myself back too. “I don’t want to push you, and I know this may not be the best time. I would rather be holding you in my arms right now, but I can’t hold it in any longer. I love you, Dove. It’s okay if you’re not ready to say it back.”

“I love you too, Clint. So much.” The words rush from my mouth, and his face lights up, and I smile back at him. I wish I could kiss him and run my fingers through the curls that have grown out a bit since he first returned to Cypress Lake.

“You have made me so damn happy!” he shouts. “The moment I get back tomorrow, I’m coming to find you. I need to kiss you.”

I laugh, shaking my head at his words. “Let’s get cleaned up.”

“Yeah, and then we’ll turn on an episode of the firefighter show you keep begging me to watch.”

I can't keep in the squeal of excitement, and the smile on my face almost hurts as I yell from my bathroom, “He loves me!”

Faintly, I hear his response, “Hell yeah I do!”

Chuck:Is it hot in here or is it just me?

Lou:Extra hot, kinda like his ramen order!

Chuck:But it looks like we are in for something new.

Lou:Mm, looks that way. Let’s see what this guy has to say.

Jameson

Small but mighty.

I have to confess something.

I see Jameson’s message pop up on my notifications, and I roll my eyes at the nickname. If he wasn't so head over heels for my best friend, I may be worried.

Paloma

What’s up, J?

Jameson

You have to promise not to tellCassidy.

Paloma

I don't know if I can do that. *eyes emoji*

Jameson

Okay then.

A couple minutes pass. I grab my water bottle and bag from the passenger seat. “Dammit,” I mumble under my breath. Once I have the car locked, I text Jameson. I have to know what his confession is. Whatever it is, it can’t be bad. He knows I won’t hide anything terrible from her.

Paloma

OMG! Tell me.

The suspense is killing me.
