Yeah, she was definitely sunshine.

“Well come on then, big guy,” she said, grabbing his hand. “Let’s get out there and enjoy my namesake.”

“Big guy?” he asked dubiously.

Jessica turned to him fully and gave him a slow perusal from head to toe. “Yeah, big guy. I’m just trying it on for size.” She smirked as she parroted his words back to him. “But tell me, Jack…does it suit you?”

Those words were a caress on his cock, and he shifted uncomfortably on his feet, willing himself not to pop a boner on a public beach. He stepped closer to Jessica, both to hide the evidence of his desire and to whisper his next words. “Why don’t I show you?”

“You’re playing with fire, Jack.”

“Don’t worry, sunshine. I can handle the heat.”

Jessica heaved a deep breath and stepped away, and Jack chuckled.

His toned physique was a relatively new development, brought on by puberty the previous summer. The height had come at the start of high school, when he was fourteen, and it had taken him an entire season to settle into his new, longer limbs. But he’d been gangly, a string bean. Somehow, he’d still been the bestgoaltender in their league, but that was only because the talent in front of him was far better than any other team they’d faced. After that year, he’d done everything he could to fill out, to bulk up—lifting constantly, increasing his food intake, even going so far as to dabble in some questionable supplements—but nothing worked. It wasn’t until last summer, during off-season training, when he’d finally started to pack on the muscle he’d worked so desperately for.

That was when he’d finally gone from an awkward teenage boy to something closer resembling a man.

“Jack?” Jessica asked, breaking him from his reverie. “Where’d you go?”

He gave his head a little shake and met her eyes. “Just wondering if a girl like you would’ve given me the time of day a year ago.” Her forehead scrunched in confusion, and he continued. “I didn’t have all this,” he added, gesturing to his ample pecs and bulging biceps.

Jessica stepped closer, the foamy water eddying around their ankles. She stretched up to place a kiss on the underside of his jaw, then reached up to tap his temple. “But you had this,” she said. “The rest is just window dressing.”

His smile was wide as he tipped his head to give her a kiss, what he meant to be a quick peck heating up in an instant.

“Stop sucking face and get your asses out here!” someone yelled, and Jack broke free from Jessica to find Chad twenty feet away, waving his arms like a mad man.

“He’s got a point,” Jessica said, grinning before taking off into the surf.

Jack had assumed boogie boarding would be easy thanks to his athleticism.

That had been a mistake.

Getting on the board wasn’t the problem so much as staying on when wave after wave pounded his back, threatening to pull him under.

The six of them tried and failed more often than not to ride waves back onto the beach. Zach, the showoff, was the only one who ever actually accomplished it, and only once.

After an hour of fighting against the swells, Jack was ready to head back in. He opened his mouth to yell for Jessica when a shout at his back had him spinning away from her.

“Help!” someone screamed, and Jack scanned the water, frantically searching for the commotion. “Help!”

There.

About fifteen feet away, a blond head bobbed on the surface of the water, there one moment and gone the next.

Tyler.

Without thinking, Jack sliced through the water, reaching the spot where he’d last seen his friend at the same moment Chad sputtered to the surface.

“That way!” Chad pointed, then took off in that direction, Jack following closely behind.

He chose his steps carefully, the current tugging at his ankles and threatening to pull him off his feet. Tyler was already in trouble; the last thing they needed was him going under, too.

They reached the spot where they’d last seen Tyler, and Chad dove under, presumably searching through the murky salt water for any sign of their friend. As soon as Chad disappeared, Tyler’s head popped up another ten feet away, gasping out, “Help!” before submerging once again.

Jack moved quickly, his heart pounding so hard he swore it was bruising his sternum. When he reached the approximate spot he’d last seen Tyler, he went under, the salt water stinging his eyes as he opened them and groped around for his friend.
