Wes’s eyes flickered open and understanding flashed. He brought his own folded hands under his head. “Where do you want to go?”
“I think Luke expects us to go back to his place.”
“As much as I like your brother, I’d like some time alone with you, where I don’t have to cover your mouth when you—”
“Hey!” she laughed, swatting at his arm. “You don’t have to look so smug.”
“I think I do.” He laughed.
Wes’s expression became serious. “Yesterday you didn’t seem sure. Are you saying you want to give us a shot?”
Their faces were only inches apart, and she could see the vulnerability behind the gold flecks of his eyes. “I don’t think I’d call it giving it a shot. I think we just…” Cara shrugged one shoulder, “are.”
A sweet smile spread across his face. “I like the sound of that.”
Wes reached out and tucked her hair behind her ear. His fingers lingered sliding the strands between his fingers. “You are so beautiful.”
“Even with bleached hair?”
Wes leaned forward brushing a kiss across her lips. “I bet you’d be gorgeous bald.”
Cara released a breathy moan as his lips found the sensitive spot under her jaw. In an abrupt movement, Wes threw back the thick duvet that covered them.
“Off,” he ordered, rising to his feet, at the foot of the bed and pointing at his T-shirt that she wore. Cara wasted no time stripping it away, as she watched him kick his boxer briefs to the corner of the room. Her heart pounded, and fire raced along her veins as she met his eyes. The bed dipped as he crawled toward her, his mouth searing a trail up her body until she was writhing.
Cara’s hands balled into the cool sheets beside her. His kisses trailed slowly up her inner thighs making her forget to breathe. “Wes. Please!” She begged.
“What is it you want?” His warm breath wafted over her core. “This?” Wes pressed a light kiss against her and Cara moaned in frustration. He looked up at her and arched an eyebrow. “More?” His tongue flicked against her, finding the bundle of nerves. But he was as impatient as she was, and with a growl, Wes’s firm lips closed over her sensitive flesh and her back arched. His tongue circled and stroked driving her crazy.
“Oh my god!” A high-pitched cry escaped her, even as her fingers found his hair and held tight. Pleasure escalated almost painfully, and she wasn’t sure if she wanted him to stop or continue the exquisite torture. Wes gripped her twisting hips, holding her still beneath him until Cara’s eyes rolled back in her head.
Before she could catch her breath, she heard the foil of the condom packet rip. Cara lifted her eyes to meet his.
“You don’t have to… I’m on the pill.” Wes hesitated. “I trust you,” Cara whispered.
Wes’s face stilled. A look she couldn’t decipher crossed his face and then his weight was pressing her deep into the mattress as he thrust into her. He bent his head murmuring her name over and over into her hair. Cara gripped at sweat-slicked shoulders as one arm wrapped around her back, pulling her up to match his movements as his other hand found her breast. He turned his face to her, claiming her lips. His tongue swept in, matching his body’s urgent movements. Urgent. Needy. Cara clasped her legs tightly, her heels locked on his back. Wes lifted her hips higher and she shattered around him.
Their hearts still pounding against each other, Wes pulled back and stroked his thumbs across her cheekbones, looking deep into her eyes. “I love you, Cara Bloom.”
Happiness suffused every cell of her body. “And I love you, Wes Evans.”
CHAPTERFIFTY-SEVEN
Exhaustedfrom the events of the past few days, Cara slept most of the flight back to Atlanta. They stayed at a hotel for a few nights rather than returning to the house. Knowing that Colin was locked up in a psych ward in Europe helped, but with the dramatics in her family, she hadn’t had time to really process how she felt about being stalked by one of her oldest friends. The thought of going back to the house made her feel slightly ill.
There had been an intense conversation about where they should live. Cara couldn’t afford to buy anything, but she also couldn’t imagine not waking up with Wes every day.
“What if you pay me rent again?”
“Is that weird?”
“I think so, but I know you won’t agree to let me pay for everything.”
That was true. Her independence had been hard won. “Smart man.”
“Still,” Wes framed her face with his hands. “I want it to beourplace, not mine. The realtor sent me some houses this morning, and there is one that I think we should go see. I think you will love it, but if you don’t, we’ll find something that suits us both.”
“I’m sure it will be great.” Cara didn’t care where they lived as long as they were together, but the home he took her to in the Brookhaven area, was perfect. It was a new construction and close enough so that she could commute to whichever production she was working on.
