“Not your business either, Dizzie.” Their eyes met.

Abruptly, he spun her back around.

Okay, true. That didn’t stop her from trying to remember every article she’d ever read about him. Girlfriends, dates, parties. Every aspect of his life seemed to be fair game or the newsies—but never a whisper about a cyber leg.

Dizzie couldn’t imagine having your privacy violated constantly. The small taste she’d gotten yesterday was enough. More than enough, when she focused on the computer screen.

Pictures of her escape accompanied the headlines. She leaned in for a closer look and Killian scooted the chair forward. As she flipped through the different pages, half her attention focused on the screens in front of her. The rest was still processing the press of his body against hers. His whole body, not just his leg. Though she was aware of the subtle difference between his two limbs, it didn’t bother her. Like her, a lot of corporate employees weren’t 100 percent human.

A sudden thought occurred and she wiggled again. More experimentally.

“Focus on the screen.” Again that growl. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up and other parts of her tingled.

She didn’t hold back her smile. Yeah, his parts were in working order.

Her smile dimmed as she read the stories. So far she was only identified as a mystery girlfriend. Better than a mad bomber or corporate courier. “Do they call any woman you come in contact with your girlfriend?”

“Pretty much.”

“That’s got to suck,” she said.

“It does.”

“Can we use that? They don’t know who I am. I’ll disappear from your life and they’ll never know.”

“You might be able to avoid the newsies, but Tremaine Security won’t stop. Portia won’t stop.” Exhaustion and sadness filled his voice. “I think revenge is the only thing keeping her going.”

“Did they follow you?” She twisted to face him, straining against his tight hold around her waist. “I’ll get out of here.”

“No one followed me.” A thread of uncertainty ran through his words.

“Why did you come? What do you want?” She was tired of unanswered questions.

He was quiet. Probably wishing he was somewhere else. “I’m here because you stole my bike. I’m here because I was worried about you.” He paused. His hands grasped her waist and his eyes met hers. “Because I can’t stop thinking about you.”

His hand slid up her back and he lowered his lips to hers.

Chapter24

His lips weresoft but firm. He brushed them over hers in feather-light kisses that were gentle yet demanding.

She started in surprise, then sank into the moment. Dizzie wanted more, so she leaned into the kiss.

Killian tightened his arms around her. She melted into him, losing the ability to think. She could only feel.

The warmth surrounding her. The pressure of his lips on hers. The strength in the body beneath her. It felt like heaven.

Killian’s lips played chase with hers. But it wasn’t enough.

She wiggled closer, seeking a better angle. She nibbled at his upper lip. A little nip. A playful demand.

His hand cupped her neck. Like his kiss, his touch was firm but gentle.

She didn’t want gentle. She wanted more of the fire that raced through her veins. A fire that had sparked to life when he’d winked at her at the gala.

Her arms slid from his neck to his shoulders.

He tensed beneath her, waiting.
