Taking her frustrations out on Tremaine Security felt surprisingly good. She swung again, but hit the door instead.

“Dammit, Dizzie! Stop hitting me!”

Holy. Shit.

She knew that voice. It had haunted at least one of her dreams last night. “What are you doing here?”

Killian took advantage of her surprise. He trapped her behind the door and pulled the pipe from her grip. Too surprised to stop him, it slid out of her hands.

“Did he send you?” She stared up at him.

“He who?”

“Never mind.” She shook her head.

She couldn’t force him back outside. He had her weapon and outweighed her. Resigned, she closed the door, hyperaware of his presence.

The moment the door shut, she whirled around. In the hallway’s dim light, he looked more dangerous than she’d ever seen him. Dark clothes, slight scruff on his jaw.

Well, damn. Trapped in the safe house was looking up.

Adopting a calm she didn’t feel, Dizzie leaned back against the wall and crossed her arms over her chest. “What are you doing here?”

“You asked if he sent me. He who?” His expression was shadowed but his voice held curiosity.

“Nobody.” If the hacker hadn’t sent him… “How did you find me? Give me back my pipe!” She extended her hand.

“I think I’ll hold on to this for now. Wouldn’t want you to take another swing at me.”

Smart man.

“Tell me what you’re doing here or get out.” She stood straight and tall, her hands on her hips, trying to look more imposing.

“You think I’d let you run away again?” His lips quirked.

He was laughing at her. She narrowed her eyes. “You don’t ‘let me’ do anything. I’m not going back with you.”

“Did I say you were?” he countered. “We need to talk. Here in the hallway or back wherever you came from. Your choice.”

He wasn’t going to leave, not until he wanted to. She read it in every muscle. For a useless playboy, he sure had a stubborn streak.

“Fine. Follow me.” She turned and walked away. His presence filled the small hallway. Solid. Reassuring. Overwhelming. She shivered. Nerves, she told herself. It was just nerves.

Killian trailed her. She knew he would. “What is this place?”

Dizzie shrugged and quickened her pace. If she put enough distance between them, maybe she’d shake off her response to him. Her fight-or-flight response from earlier had transformed into an emotion just as primal.

Her nipples tightened and she was intensely aware that he had purchased the lace underwear she wore.

Dizzie sped up, trying to quell the throbbing between her legs. She needed distance.

She was already on the far side of the computer room when Killian entered.

He whistled and shifted his attention shift from her to the equipment. His change of focus left her strangely disappointed.

He studied the computers. “Pretty intricate. Yours?”

She shrugged again. She didn’t owe him answers—not until she knew why he was here—and maybe not even then.
