“We were supposed to get out through the garbage.” Killian was pissed.

Dizzie couldn’t blame him. She’d changed plans on the fly.

She glanced down. He’d landed on top of the unstable pile a few feet below her. Judging by all his cursing, he must be scrambling to stay on the surface.

“The plan’s changed,” she yelled. “You can still get out. Turn left and head toward the wall.”

Dizzie tried to indicate the direction with her head without swinging again. “The door in the corner will lead you to an alley a few blocks from Tremaine headquarters.”

His glare was like daggers. Hanging from a narrow ledge above a massive pile of garbage was infinitely safer than being near him at the moment.

“I’m supposed to getyouout of here.” That wasn’t worry in his voice.

“I can get out from here,” she called. “Thank you for getting me out of the cell, though.”

A safe place to sleep was her priority. As soon as she got out of here. Tomorrow she’d focus on proving her innocence.

“You’re not leaving me here!” His roar echoed in the space around them.

Definitely time to go.

“You’ll be fine. Thanks for your help!” She infused her voice with perkiness. At the same time, she threw an elbow over the ledge and tried to pull herself up.

“Not. Going. To. Happen.” His voice came from below her. Around her, the wall rattled with each word, generating bigger and bigger ripples that rocked the ledge.

By the last word, she’d lost all her progress and hung by her fingernails.

Shit!

Her arms trembled. If the metal wall didn’t stop shaking soon, no way could she hang on, much less pull herself back up. “Stop it! I’m going to fall.”

“That’s the point,” he growled.

Was he trying to get her killed? Okay, the fall wouldn’t kill her. Probably. “Why are you doing this to me?”

“I’m not letting you out of my sight until I get answers about what happened at the party.”

“I told you before, I don’t have any answers.” Her throat was sore from shouting. Muscles straining, she couldn’t hold on much longer. “Just let me go. I’ll disappear far, far away.”

“It’s me or Tremaine Security. The longer I have to stay in this pit, the more willing I’m gonna be to pick security.”

“I can stay up here all night.” She was such a liar. She had minutes left. Maybe.

“Get down here now or I’m coming up and getting you.”

“You and what army?” The words slipped out.Dammit, Dizzie!Taunting the angry man in the garbage dump wasn’t a smart move.

Something wrapped around her ankle. She screamed.

She tried to jerk her leg away, but whatever had a grip on her wasn’t letting go.

“Get it off.” She shook her leg. “Get it off.”

Laugher, rich and deep.

“Why are you laughing? Get it off me!” She kicked wildly again.

“I told you I wasn’t letting you go.” His voice was gruff.
