She sat up, moved my hair out of my face, and studied me. “What’s wrong?”

So many things.“You’re beautiful. Fucking stunning.” Her hair was wild around her face. Her cheeks were rosy, and she had a glow about her that I hadn’t seen before.

She smiled, giving me a shy look as she traced a finger over one of my canines. “I can’t decide if you're more handsome with these or when you’re normal.”

I chuckled. “There’s nothing normal about me.”

She giggled. “True.”

I sat on my haunches, keeping my hands on her legs. “We need to talk.”

She lost her smile. “Is this where you tell me that what happened tonight will never happen again?”

I was kicking myself in the ass that I’d ruined the mood. “Fuck no. You’re mine, Layla. I didn’t just say that in the throes of sex or because I wanted to get inside you. I was serious.”

She shuddered, and her shoulders sagged. “I can’t explain it, but I feel the same way. I feel this strong connection to you. I feel what you feel. I’m trying to fight it.”

I rubbed her calves. “Don’t.”

“Isn’t it unnatural to feel like I want to spend eternity with you when we just met, like, what, a day or two ago? I know it’s your blood making me feel you, want you. Maybe when I leave, the spell will break.”

I gritted my molars at the thought that I wouldn’t see her again. But I wasn’t about to argue with her. Not yet anyway. “We didn’t use protection.”

Her blue eyes glinted. “I know. You can’t get me pregnant. I don’t carry that rare blood type.”

I sighed heavily.

“Was that what you were worried about?”

I wasn’t sure how I felt about having kids. I’d never thought that far into the future. I was a vampire who had never set his sights on a long-term relationship, especially with a human woman. She would grow old. I wouldn’t.

“Not at all. I figured you wouldn’t have slept with me if you had that rare blood type, but the bigger issue is your family. Given that you’re from a long line of vampire hunters, some here are concerned that we could spark a war between humans and vampires.”

“My uncles don’t care about my sisters and me.”

“Have you spoken to your uncle Jack? I have.”

Her mouth dropped open. “You spoke to him? I assumed it was your father who had.”

“He called your phone while I had it. He told me he would string us up like pigs and roast us or something to that effect.”

“He would because you’re a vampire, not because he cares about me,” she said seriously.

I pushed to my feet and extended my arm. “He’s never met a Mason.” I closed my hand over hers. “You should take a shower. You smell like sex and me.”

“The sun isn’t up yet.” She glanced out the window that faced a brick building with no windows in it. “We could continue where you left off.” She rubbed her free hand along my dick.

“Baby doll, I would like nothing more, but Rianne is looking for you.”

“What!” She jumped up and ran around the room, searching for her clothes. “I can’t tell her about us. Don’t you dare tell anyone, Sam.” She plucked clothes off the floor.

“About that….”

She stomped her foot. “No, you didn’t.”

“Kind of hard not to when vampires have that sixth sense.” I wrapped my arm around her waist and tugged her to me. “Tripp won’t say a word.”

“We can’t be seen together. And no one else can know about us.”
