“Well, I didn’t know. I figured he’d have his dick down some chick’s throat this morning. You know how he is.”

I practically choke on the bite of bagel that I have in my mouth, and I pray to god that he can keep silent behind the door.

“Do you… do you have his shirt on?” Kenz looks me over, her eyes narrowing. I feel panic well up in my gut.

“Not his, no…”

“Then whose? Because you can’t tell me that’s in your size.” Kenz looks it over again. “Did you… did you hook up with someone last night?”

“Maybe?” Why did I just say maybe? Why?Shit.

“Did you bring him back here? To this room? Oh my god. You fucking vixen. And here we thought he’d be the one doing it.”

“You met someone last night? I thought East took you to dinner?” Liv looks at me quizzically.

“He did, but after we went out. Had some drinks.”

“A ski instructor?” Kenz grins.

“Where was East?” Liv asks. And I want to ask her why she is so focused on him in this story.

“No ski instructor. And uh, I don’t know. Some women were hitting on him who he knew. I assume he probably went off into a room with them somewhere and did his thing.”

“He went off with other women? And left you alone at a party where you didn’t know anyone?” Liv’s voice raises a little.

“It was fine. I told him to go. He came back and found me later.” Lying to your best friends is a maze of dishonesty, and I amverylost in it.

“That really looks like a shirt I’ve seen East wear at the apartment though. Are you sure you didn’t accidentally grab his thinking it was the other guy’s?” Kenz looks at the shirt again thoughtfully.

“How drunk were you exactly? Are we sure East wasn’ttheguy?” Liv adds.

And I’m wondering if this is a panic attack I’m having because my chest feels like it’s on fire, my cheeks feel scorching hot, and I just wish it was all enough to melt me into the floor and stop all the questions.

“I don’t think I’d ever be drunk enough to fuck Easton, Liv. Don’t be silly.”

“Okay. Well, I’m just saying…” She looks me over again, and I need them out of here. Now.

“Listen, I appreciate the hangover care package and you guys being so sweet. But I really need a shower and a nap if I’m going to be ready for the rest of the day.”

“You heard all the plans we have?” Kenz beams at me.

“Yes, it sounds amazing. I really appreciate having a girl’s day and night out. It’s really thoughtful of you guys.”

“All right. We’ll let you get some rest. Meet you at 1 in the lobby?”

“See you then.” I smile and usher them out of the door, waving as they leave.

When I turn around, Easton’s already out of the bathroom. He’s grabbing clothes and starting to get changed.

“Oh my god. That was terrifying,” I say leaning up against the door and pressing my hand to my heart.

“Yeah. Close call,” he mumbles as he throws his shirt on.

“Are you leaving?” I say, a little kick of apprehension in my chest.

“Yeah. I should get going. Meet the guys. I think we’re hitting the slopes.” He pulls his pants on and I can’t help feeling like he’s pissed off.

“Oh. Okay… I thought we had some more time. That we could finish what we started…” I start to walk toward him, but he dodges around me headed straight for the door.
