“You do seem to be healing particularly fast. It appears your kind react a bit differently to our healing salves than we expected. Perhaps that is partly to blame for your skin regenerating without a trace of your runes.”
“Maybe. I couldn’t say. This is all pretty novel to me, so I don’t really know.”
“I wouldn’t expect you to. Women are not normally allowed within these walls, and our ways are somewhat hidden from the public eye. At least most aspects.”
“Really? But you took me in? I feel special.”
“To be fair, you had just survived a horrible crash, and the nearest healers outside our order are some distance from here.”
“Gee, thanks. You make a girl feel so special.”
Draikis chuckled. “I assure you, I meant no disrespect.”
He leaned over, tucking in one of her dressings that had started to slip off. His loose tunic draped open, allowing her a view inside. His body was incredible. Athletic. Lean. Cut. That, combined with his ridiculous cheekbones and piercing silver eyes, made the man look like some sexy alien model. He noted her gaze, meeting it warmly, unfazed, and not shy in the least.
“You should drink more. It will help your body heal. I’ll get you a cup of mineral juice.”
He rose and strode across the chamber, his amazing ass looking like two halves of a bowling ball filling out his trousers. And when he turned back toward her, the hefty length hidden beneath the fabric brushed against it, outlining a most impressively thick manhood. Despite her physical state, Ella couldn’t help but feel a different sort of sensation. A delightful respite, a moment of pleasure after so many days of discomfort.
Draikis sat and held the cup to her lips. “Sip slowly. We wouldn’t want you to cough.”
“As you keep telling me.”
“Just looking out for your poor ribs. But if you’d rather—” he said, pulling the cup away.
“Hey! No, nothing like that. More, please.”
His smile melted her as he gave her another drink. This sexy man was waiting on her hand and foot, looking after her every need and even feeding her in bed. If not for the broken bones and burns, it would be a wonderful experience.
“You know, I had worried tending you would be a chore. But I have rather enjoyed our little talks.”
“When I’m not delirious, you mean.”
“Well, yes, there is that. But even then, I just take your silence as rapt fascination with my stories.”
“I was unconscious most of the time.”
“Sure. Maybe my brothers would believe that, but I know better,” he replied with a bright laugh.
“Brothers?”
“You’ve met many of them.”
“They’re your brothers? All of them? That’s ahugefamily.”
At that Draikis laughed even louder, the cheery sound rumbling up from deep in his belly.
“Oh, my dear girl,” he said, shaking his head, a hint of tears of amusement in his eyes. “Now that’s funny.”
“What is?”
“I suppose I could have worn my robes. That would have made it clear, but we never wear them here in our own walls.”
“Robes?”
“I am of the Norvalian Sect.”
“You’ve said.”
