“Oh, I could race.”
“Cool.”He slipped out of bed, feeling a little self-conscious about being naked, but he forced himself to ignore that—they’d come together, right? He didn’t need to be shy about his body.“You wanna be ultra decadent and just wrap ourselves in blankets?”He’d have suggested robes, but he didn’t have two.
“That sounds perfect.”Charma got up too, and Darcy took a moment to admire the lean body. For a minute, he wished that he’d suggested a third go-round, but only for a minute. He reminded himself that he wanted to get to know more about Charma than just sex.
He grabbed a couple of soft blankets from the bottom drawer of his dresser and tossed one at Charma, then wrapped himself in the other. They were what his grandmother would have called a throw, rather than a full blanket, but they were perfect for what they were using them for. Then he led the way back into the living room.
“You want anything to drink?”He did have those two Cokes left, though if they had them now there wouldn’t be any left for supper and buying drinks through a restaurant was an expensive way to do it.
“Water sounds good. And I can get it.I know where your kitchen is.”Charma gave him a grin and headed there.“You want a glass too?”
“Yeah, please.”Darcy turned on the TV and selected the Switch, then he grabbed the controllers, unplugging them so they could play without the impediment of wires. He was glad he’d decided to get two, even if the second one was rarely used.
By the time he had the game set up, Charma had come back with a couple glasses of water, and he settled on the couch next to Darcy.Feeling daring, Darcy leaned over and stole a kiss.Charma was smiling when he pulled back, so clearly it had been okay to do.
“So do you play this a lot?”Charma asked as they picked their drivers and their vehicles.
“Often enough that I’m pretty good against the computer.I don’t usually have a human opponent, though.I’m hoping you can give me a run for my money.”
“You like a challenge, do you?”
“When gaming, yeah.I mean, sometimes I just want to do something easy and mindless to pass the time, but usually I prefer the thing not be super easy peasy.”
“Hopefully, things won’t be lemon squeezy playing against me.”
Darcy laughed. He liked Charma’s sense of humor—it made him feel less dorky.
It turned out that Charma was a very good opponent. It took him a few rounds to get a handle on how the controller worked and how the bonuses and whatnot in the game could add to your speed or slow you down, but once they’d been at it for a bit, he was definitely giving Darcy a run for his money. In fact, Darcy was pretty sure he was about to lose this one.
“Score!”Charma pumped both hands up in the air.“I beat you!”
Darcy had to laugh as Charma jumped up and did a little dance, his blanket falling away and leaving him naked, dangly bits waving around and drawing Darcy’s attention as Charma wriggled.
“Sorry.”Charma did not sound the least bit sorry. He grabbed his blanket and wrapped it around his shoulders again before throwing himself down onto the couch next to Darcy.“But you have won like forty kagillion times in a row.”
“More like ten, but I get your point.I’m going to have to try harder to win now.”Which really, was a good thing; he didn’t want to just roll over Charma every round—that was no fun.For either of them.
“Unless this is where you tell me you’re not actually left-handed?”
“Huh?No, I’m right-handed.Always have been.”
“It was supposed to be a joke, but I think the fact that we drive with two hands probably spoils it anyway.”
Darcy continued to be confused for a moment, and it hit him.“Oh!Damn, I know that reference. It just took me a minute.”
Charma grinned at him and said, “Hello, my name?—"
“—is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father.Prepare to die,” Darcy finished with Charma.
They laughed and high-fived.
“I haven’t seen that movie in ages,” Darcy noted. It was his only defense for not getting the not left-handed reference in the first place.
“Inconceivable!”Charma said.
“You keep using that word.I do not think it means what you think it means,” Darcy countered.
Charma grinned.“It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead.”
