“My mother would be alive had it not been for you and your father,” I remind her. “When will you truly see yourdaddyfor what he really was?”
“Your blame is misplaced,” she says as she backs toward the door. “Maybe you need a bit more time down here to sort it all out.”
“Sure.” I shrug and slide down the wall. “Will I be getting the Hell’s March special? Rape with a side of thirst? Because, Genni? Yes, fucking please.”
“You’re fucking sick!” she screams, then kicks over the discarded water bottle. “Get your head on right, Jaeger.” She steps out and slams the door, shutting me in with the darkness once more.
“You’re not fucking wrong,” I say into the pitch-black engulfing me.
A sharp sting on my cheek brings me back to consciousness, and immediately the ache in my balls radiates throughout me, the pain tugging on the contents of my stomach. I fucking fell for that move, again. Cash is standing over me with concern etched on his features.
“What happened, Chino?” He looks over his shoulder. “Chip and the others are being a little too tight-lipped. Where’s Jaeger?”
I sit up and look around the room, the edges of my vision dotted with shadows. “Where are Laith and Genni?”
“Laith and Genni?” Cash gives me a quizzical look. “How hard did you hit your head? Laith is probably in his room, and Genni is in the basement.”
Then it comes back to me that Cash has been away and knows nothing about what’s happened, and for some reason, I want to protect Genni from his wrath. “Kennedy is in Medical with a gunshot wound to the shoulder,” I say as I grunt, struggling to get to my feet.
“What the fuck happened?” Cash does a spin on the spot. “I better go check on him.”
He doesn’t wait for an explanation and I’m grateful for it until I hear her call out, “Cash! Just the man I’ve been waiting for.”
“Fuck!” I hiss and turn to see her striding toward us with that Hell’s March cut billowing around her waist. Laith has a shit-eating grin on his face as he follows close behind her. This is about to get ugly.
“What the fuck is going on here?” he curses, his face suddenly looking wary. “Where’s Jaeger?”
“Where he should be,” Genni spits out. “Let’s have a chat, shall we?” She holds her hand out toward our Church door, acting as if this is her club and she’s about to hold mass.
“Like fuck you’re going in there!” Cash bellows, his face a mask of red fury. I can see the prominent vein in his forehead pulsing with his anger and his beard twitching with each clench of his jaw.
Chip comes out from behind the bar, his hand moving toward the gun at his waist. I look around the room and I’m shocked to see a few brothers doing the same. All of them with a critical eye on Cash. How divided would we be as a club if we’re forced to choose between the Varga siblings?
“Now, now,” Genni taunts. “You were jovial enough when you forced me off the road and brought me back to my sadistic brother. What has happened since then? Were you hoping I’d be tied up in that basement, getting the shit kicked out of me?”
“Forced?” He barks out a laugh. “You came willingly and now I see why. You wanted your chance to infiltrate us so you could whore the information back to the March with your legs open.”
“Hey!” Laith snarls just as I’m about to tell Cash to back off, but Genni already has it covered. She saunters to Cash, who doesn’t back down, and why should he? To him, she’s nothing but the daughter of a deceased President.
I can see the moment that thought changes. Genni stands toe to toe with him, showing Cash’s height at a few inches shorter than her own. The room falls quiet as she stares down her nose at him, a slow smile forming along her exquisite lips.
“Your President is locked tight in the basement, recovering from his interrogation. It’s against club rules to usurp the President’s position. I think taking a few fingers and toes shouldn’t affect his quality of life, do you?” My stomach bottoms out as I look at Laith, my eyebrows to the ceiling. Did she really chop up Jaeger’s fingers and toes?
Cash tries to take a step back, but she locks her fist into his shirt and swiftly punches him in the nose with the other. His head snaps back, and a brother runs for them, his intention clear until Laith cuts him off. “Don’t.” He shakes his head, his hand dangerously close to his gun. Genni just hauls Cash back in to punch him a second time, then lets the old man fall to the floor.
“Genni!” I cry out as I rush toward Cash, who’s struggling to sit up. “He was one of Vic’s best friends!”
“Couldn’t have cared too much about that friendship if kidnapping me and bringing me here to be tortured was a fun thing to do,” she retorts and then spits down at us both. “Cash, you’re exiled. Take your cut off and get the fuck out of here.”
“You can’t exile me.” Cash spits blood onto the floor at her feet. “Fuck you.”
“She can,” Laith confirms as he comes forward, his body standing slightly in front of Genni. “Vic wanted his daughter to be President and now she’s here.”
“Vic was fucking selfish,” Cash snaps as he finally gets to his feet and looks Genni in the eye. “You were truly idiotic if you thought becoming President of a club was a possibility, and I don’t care what your fucking vest says.” Then he looks over at me, his brows knitting together in disgust. “You’re the fucking Vice, have you nothing to say?”
“You’re not exiled,” I assure him. “But running off at the mouth isn’t making this better.”
“You are exiled!” Genni bellows as she comes out from behind Laith, her words echoing around the room and her body trembling with anger. “If you stay here and ignore my decision, I will fucking kill you.” Anger is coursing through her as she trembles from the force of it.
