“What? No, I’m… no!” I shake my head and look away.

“You’re such a bad liar, Sunset.” He laughs, and even his laugh fills my chest with warmth. What is happening to me?

Cas’s expression softens. “Don’t worry, baby. I told her I’m here with my girlfriend.”

He smirks, and I feel relief rush through me. Why do I feel relieved? We’ve only known each other for a month now. But that word…girlfriend…I really do like the sound of it.

“So you’re saying you’re my boyfriend, cowboy?” I ask, lowering my voice to a teasing purr.

He growls. “You bet your fine-looking ass I am.”

He pulls me closer, our lips almost touching. “That okay with you, Sunset?”

I melt. “I like the sound of that, cowboy.” I kiss him.

“Come on, let’s get some of Summer’s delicious treats.” Cas takes my hand, and as we make our way to Summer’s stand, I notice several women shooting daggers my way.Ooookay.

Summer smiles as we reach her dessert table.

“Penny!” I hear Mia before I see her, running toward me with her pink dress flowing around her.

“Hey, pumpkin!” I smile, letting go of Cas’s hand and picking her up.

“Look what Ethan bought for me!” She holds up a star wand that changes colors.

I glance at Ethan, who’s trying to look casual while sneaking glances at Summer. I smirk. Is he interested in her?

“That is a beautiful wand, Mia!” I gasp playfully. “I bet the fairies in those trees are jealous of it.”

Mia giggles. I set her down and catch Cas watching me with a warm smile.

“Pumpkin pie or apple and cinnamon cookies?” Summer asks. The smell of her treats makes my mouth water.

“Both!” Cas and I say at the same time.

Summer laughs and hands us each a plate.

“Mommy, can I go over to the hay fort?” Mia bounces on her feet.

“I don’t know, baby, I can’t leave my stand unsupervised…” Summer bites her lip.

“I can go with her, keep an eye out,” Ethan offers, stepping closer. Summer blushes.

I glance at Cas, and we share a silent look. Something is definitely brewing there.

“Please, Mommy, please can I go?” Mia begs, her raspberry lips forming the perfect pout.

“Can’t say no to that,” Ethan says, smiling at Summer.

Summer wrings her hands. “Oh, I wouldn’t want to put you out.”

“Not a problem at all.” Ethan crouches down until he’s eye level with Mia. “With this princess here?” he teases, then looks up at Summer with a smirk. “It would be my pleasure. But only if you’re comfortable, of course.”

Summer glances at me, and I nod in encouragement.

“Okay, but only for half an hour, and don’t drive Ethan crazy, okay?”

Mia nods so fast her pigtails wiggle. “Thank you, Mommy!” She grabs Ethan’s hand and pulls him toward the hay maze.
