“How long does that take?”

Brendan shrugged. “A couple of hours. Mostly, I want to make sure it happens, because if it doesn’t, then that can damage the mother’s health.” He watched as the little colt took wobbly steps as he continued to feed, while Princess positioned herself at the hay. “It looks like mama and baby are just fine, but I’m messaging Mitchell about the birth so he can come and look both of them over.”

“Okay.” Lucas slipped his arms around him and held him tightly, his chest pressing into Brendan’s back. “You are so beautiful.”

“No, I’m not.”

“Oh, yes, you are.” He lightly patted Brendan’s ass, and he whimpered slightly. “I think it’s time for you and me to go back to bed. The birth is over and you can come back out here in a little while to check on the mama and colt. Okay?” He kissed the base of Brendan’s neck. “It’s still four in the morning, and you are going to need some rest because it’s going to be a busy day.”

“You just want to have your way with me… again.” Not that he minded in the least. Brendan turned and took Lucas’s hand, leading him out of the barn and across the yard in the rain. Once inside, he managed to get his boots and jacket off before Lucas led him through the house and up the stairs.

“We need to get these wet clothes off,” Lucas whispered, and almost before Brendan could agree, he was naked and being pressed down onto the bed.

“What I need is a little sleep,” Brendan teased.

“You can get all the sleep you want, once I’m done with you.” Lucas grabbed a condom from the side table and rolled it on, adding some lube, before taking Brendan into his arms. Brendan wrapped his legs around Lucas’s waist, and Lucas slid into him. “Fuck, I love it every time.”

“Me too,” Brendan said as they slowly moved together. The rain outside accompanied their love-making, like a songthat belonged to only them, lasting until the final bit of their passion had been spent. Only then, did they lay together in the night, falling asleep in each other’s arms, the sheet and blankets tangled around both of them.

“Daddy. Areyou and Mr. Lucas having a sleepover? I want one too,” Jameson said brightly as Brendan opened his eyes. He glanced at the clock and groaned before realizing that Lucas was in bed with him and neither of them had any clothes on.

“Why don’t you go get dressed, and we can go out and see if the horse had her baby?” he said, and Jameson ran out of the room like a shot.

“Sorry. I guess I should have left your bed, but….” Lucas yawned, and Brendan kissed him.

“It’s okay. We should get dressed while he’s gone, though.” Brendan got up and pulled on fresh clothes while Lucas snuck out of the room and across the hall, closing his door before Jameson returned.

“Can we go now?” Jameson asked. He wore two different shoes, so Brendan had him fix it before they went downstairs and headed to the stables.

“The baby was borned,” Jameson declared as he peered over the stall wall. Brendan checked the stall and saw what he was looking for near the corner. He went inside and used a shovel to scoop up the placenta and took it away, letting Jameson watch the little colt with Princess.

“Is the baby going to be my horse?” Jameson asked. “I’ll feed him and ride him, but you can clean up the poop.” It seemed his son had it all figured out.

“No. This isn’t our colt. He belongs to Jayanne and her mom. But they’ll be here in the stable, so you can watch him grow up.”

Jameson looked almost heartbroken. “But when will I get my own horsie? I promise to be good to him and everything.”

Brendan lifted Jameson into his arms. “Hey. You’ll get a horse of your own, but not for a little while yet. They take a lot of care, and you need to learn how first. So I’m going to teach you how to care for the horses, and once you know that, then you’ll get a horse of your own.” He would eventually see that Jameson had a pony, but at the moment, there was no room for one in the stable. All the stalls were occupied. But in the next year or so, he was going to have to make space for Jameson’s horse. “Can you be patient? After all, we have all these horses right here.”

“And the baby?”

“Yes, and the baby too. He doesn’t have to be yours for you to love him.” He smiled, and Jameson smiled back before squirming to get down. He ran back over to the stall and climbed up on the bale, peering over the wall.

“I love you, baby horsie,” Jameson said, watching.

Brendan turned as Jayanne and her mother hurried into the barn, both of them all smiles and happiness.

“He’s doing just fine. I’m expecting the veterinarian at any time to look them over. But I was wondering if you’ve given any thought to a name?”

“Legos!” Jameson said as he hurried over.

Jayanne was good enough to smile. “I don’t know.” She looked at her mother.

“You name him whatever you like,” she told her, and Brendan lifted Jameson to try to settle him.

“I only picked out girl names,” she admitted. “I thought for sure it was going to be a filly.”

“Pickles,” Jameson interjected. Thankfully, Mitchell arrived and the attention shifted to the health of mother and colt, both of which were pronounced as doing very well. Brendan leftJayanne and her mother with their horses and followed Mitchell back out to this truck.
