The next thought intrudes, slipping by me like a penalty kick to the opposite corner.
I wonder what she wants from me.
She has to want something. Everyone does. Hell, it’s not like I’m attracting anyone with my sparkling personality. Maybe my skills in the sack, but she was tolerating me even before that.
And it’s not like she was the one hitting on me. Quite the opposite.
No, I came on strong. She didn’t even have to try to seduce me.
What if it’s all an act? What if she doesn’t actually like me? There’s not a lot to like.
God, I’m so stupid, walking into another trap, just like I did with Katherine.
But Hannah’s not like Katherine. IknowHannah. She was a good friend to me in college. But that was a long time ago, and things change. People change.
Something she said pops to the forefront of my brain.
And it’s all your fault.
She never did tell me what I could have possibly done that cost her her career. What if she’s playing some long game in order to exact revenge on me?
There’s only one way to find out.
Chapter 26: Hannah
The meeting withThe Looking Glasswent well. Very well. I have a contract in my bag to review and sign.
It’s amazing. This is happening. My career is finally going to start.
Cally walks out of the bathroom, towel wrapped low around his waist. Yowzers.
Thisis also really happening.
Never in a million years did I see my life moving in this direction. Never did I think that social media would get me the job of my dreams. Well, more like a job adjacent to my dreams. It’s not ESPN or Fox Sports or even a network, but it’s a foot in the door. And whileThe Looking Glassdoes appear to be a bit more of a gossip publication than true sports reporting, perhaps I can pull them to the real story of the game.
And then there’s Cally. That was totally unexpected.
