“I live up in Boston. Charlestown.”

Makes sense, with her working there and all. “Okay.”

“It’s a long drive.”

“It’s not that long, and what else are you going to do? Do you know how much an Uber would cost?”

We stand there, staring at each other for a long moment. What is she thinking about? I try to read her face, but her expression is smooth. Her tobacco-colored eyes stare back at me, unblinking.

Even though I’ve watched her videos over and over on ClikClak, it’s a bit surreal that she’s standing here in front of me. She’s composed and calm, not at all like she was when I saw her at her work.

This is the Hannah I remember from college. Put together and unflappable. Controlled on the field and in the gym. Until the night before I left, I didn’t know she could lose control like that.

And boy, did she ever.

“Let me do this for you.” The words surprise me. I’m not known for being magnanimous and giving. Probably because people are usually trying to take from me. I don’t usually get the chance to offer before they ask.

From the small breath Hannah takes in, my words must surprise her too. “Okay, fine, but I’m not going to talk to you in the car.” Then she’s back to silence. I stand there, not sure what to make of her until she tilts her head to the side and widens her eyes as if to say, “Are we going?”

I walk to my car, Hannah following behind me. I know this was the right thing to do, especially since Hannah helped get Xavier signed with us and all, but I’m totally regretting my decision.

There is no way I am not going to mess this up with Hannah.

Again.

tay cool. Stay cool. Stay cool.

I chant that inside my head, trying not to let any emotion show. I’m wearing my interview face, which I’ve spent hours practicing. It’s neutral, not betraying the absolute turmoil that is running speed drills in my stomach.

I have to spend almost an hour in a car with Callaghan Entay. My brain cannot even begin to process the thoughts moving through it faster than Usain Bolt.

Tell him you almost died.
