I take it off (for now), throw on a baggy tee, and we sit side-by-side to do our makeup. I blast our 2010’s playlist and we sing along, terribly. Dani disappears to the kitchen to grab the wine.
“Tyler’s giving us a lift,” she calls when she comes back. “He’s heading out too, but not drinking. He’s got some run comp tomorrow or something.”
“Oh yeah, I forgot he had that tomorrow. So good that he can give us a lift, now we canproperlypre game!” I put on my earrings and ask, trying to to be casual. “Is Lucas still home?” I take a sip of the glass of wine she just poured for me.
“He just left with some woman. Tyler said he had a dinner with her or something.” She replies, shrugging her shoulders.
What? A dinner? As in a date? How did I not know this? Of course he’s seeing someone. Jealously gnaws at me even though I told him we can’t do this again. I can’t expect him to not date other people. I can’t help the disappointment I feel though.
“Oh. I didn’t know he had a date.” I try and fail to hide my disappointment.
She shrugs, then deadpans. “Wait are you into him? I thought you toldhim you didn’t want to go there again?”
“Ididsay that. And I meant it. I mean—I’m living here. And I just got out of something. It’s too soon. Ishouldn’thave feelings.” I sigh. “But maybe I do. And now he’s dating someone else, so… whatever.”
She raises an eyebrow. “Oh Babes, you got it bad. You like him. It’s okay to like him, you know. Fuck timing. You can’t help when you meet someone you connect with and you can’t stop those feeling because your worried about what other people would think. And we don’t know if it’s a date. Let’s just not worry about it tonight and have a fun night out okay?”
I blow out a breath. “You’re right. Let’s just forget about boys tonight. Tonight is about us girls and having fun.”
“Cheers to that.”Clink
“By the way, have you come across any more rentals? I thought we were almost in with that last one. Then they changed their mind about their pets rule. I’m sorry about that by the way.” I say.
I feel bad that Gizmo is making it harder to find a place. I also feel bad that I haven’t been looking very hard. Since moving in here, my search has been lazy. I’ve grown content living here, the rush to find somewhere doesn’t feel sorushednow.
“I haven’t found anything else yet. This town has bugger all rentals, it’s like everyone just buys and lives here forever.” She grabs her mascara from her makeup bag. “And seriously, don’t even worry about Gizmo. It’s not your fault. If anything, my budget is what’s making it so hard. If I was working full time I could contribute more. And please don’t suggest you pay more, I won’t accept it. We’re 50/50 in this Babe. Something will come along. And now you’re staying here, we don’t have to rush. Do we?” She looks away to apply her mascara, with her mouth slightly open.
“I guess not. I do like it here.” I admit.
“Good. Now, can you help me put my lashes on? Please?” She holdsthem out for me.
We finish getting ready and start to take some selfies, we look seriously hot. I would fuck us. We’re also tipsy, we ended up drinking both bottles of wine already. It’s 10 p.m. now. We kept getting carried away catching up instead of actually getting ready.
“Let’s make a video! I haven’t posted much on my TikTok since not travelling lately, so I really need some more content.”
“Okay, fine. But I’m not doing one of those silly dances.” I pout.
I very rarely use my social media, besides to share photos of hair for work. But Dani is a bit of an influencer.
She does in fact make me do one of those silly dances. She’ssolucky I love her.
We are interrupted by a knock on the door.
“You guys ready yet?” Tyler asks through it. Danielle jumps up and opens the door, sticking her hip out in a sexy pose. Tyler is leaning his arm against the doorframe, filling the space.
“Ready when you are.” She winks at him.
So much for not being interested in him, her actions say another thing. He looks her up and down like he is definitely interested. She laughs, smirking when she gets the look she wanted from him.
“Let’s go.” She says to us both. I stand up and follow her, grabbing our handbags off the bed.
“Let’s do this.” I cheer as I walk behind them.
We drive in Tyler’s Ford Ute.
I can see him tightening his fists around the steering wheel when Danitalks about guys she knows will be out tonight.
“Don’t worry though, I won’t be hooking up tonight. Tonight is girls night.” She yells the last bit.
