“He just tried to assault both bartenders, and me,” I tell the guy. “Might want to keep an eye on him. Or call the cops. Up to you. Just make sure he doesn’t get back in.”

We toss Sean to the ground. “Enjoy the pavement, mate.” I brush my hands off and turn back inside.

Let’s do shots

I can’t believe that just happened. My head is spinning.

I feel fear, shock, embarrassment and something else that I’m almost ashamed to admit.Turned on. What the heck is wrong with me?

Sean’s behavior was disgusting, another crystal-clear reminder of why I needed to leave him.

But watching two gorgeous men defend my honor like that? Yeah… that was kind of hot.

Lucas and Tyler walk back in, concern etched across their faces. They come straight to Danielle and I.

They say at the same time, “are you ladies alright?”

We both nod, glance at each other, then back at them. “Thank you,”we echo.

“Fuck, I didn’t think he was gonna leave,” Danielle lets out a long sigh of relief.

“Well… it took these two getting involved for him to finally listen. I’m sorry, guys. I feel so embarrassed,” I look down at my feet then back up to Lucas whose gaze is already on mine, his eyes are filled with warmth.

“Camille, you havenothingto be sorry for. I hope you’re okay. Please don’t feel embarrassed. He’s not your fault, or your responsibility.”

“He’s right. You’ll never win a fight with someone who only lives in his own version of reality.” Danielle rubs my arms.

I swallow hard, trying not to cry. That kind of kindness from them all, catches me completely off guard. “Thank you.”

Danielle pops behind the bar while I stay talking with Lucas and Tyler.

Tyler slings an arm over my shoulder in that easy, charming way of his.

“Let’s do shots!” Danielle yells, holding up a tequila bottle from behind the bar. “On the house for our heroes tonight!”

The bar is officially closed—but the four of us linger on and play bar games.

Danielle and Tyler are still drinking, that one tequila shot quickly turned into more. So it’s safe to say, they are well and truly drunk now. Bickering over a game of darts of all things. She’s accusing him of cheating, which I’m pretty sure isn’t even possible in darts, but she’s passionate about it anyway.

Lucas and I plan to drive our cars home tonight, so we stopped drinking. We’re just enjoying each others company and the spark that keeps igniting every time our eyes meet.

We’re playing pool, just the two of us.

I let him teach me, even though I actually know how to play quite well.

He’s watching me lean over the table. I can feel the way his eyes linger on my body. It’s driving me crazy in the best possible way. The way he looks at me makes me feel like I’m on fire.

His words bring me back to reality.

“I hate to bring him up, but how are you feeling? Sean seemed pretty full on.”

I nod, straightening. “Yep, that was awful. But honestly, I’m not entirely surprised. That’s just how Sean is. To put it lightly, he’s an asshole. Hence why I left. He can be a bit irrational at times.”

“Hmm, I noticed that. I’m really sorry that he was an asshole to you. You didn’t deserve that. He was on something tonight, wasn’t he?” Concern laces his voice. He’s not judging, he just wants to know.

I hesitate. I hate talking about myself and my feelings but something in my gut tells me I can trust him.
