I smile, pressing my forehead to hers. “I’m not carrying you, Estrella. I’m standing beside you.”
She exhales, a soft sound that breaks something open inside me. The rain shifts to a drizzle, a steady rhythm that feels almost peaceful now.
When she finally drifts to sleep against my chest, I hold her tighter and stare out at the ocean. The sky is bruised and heavy, but I can see the faintest stretch of light breaking through the clouds.
It’s not much.
But it’s enough.
