That fucking line sounds overly familiar that my fists clench at my sides.

“Stop,” I close our gap right before she reaches the room, and turn her softly by the shoulder to face me. “Did anyone speak to you?”

Her tender expression reflects hurt and it pierces me when her eyes encounter mine.

I cup her delicate face in my palms. “Tell me, I want to know so I can make it better.”

“Meadow, you worked so hard to get where you are today, I’m not here to ruin that.”

“I know that so why are you pulling away?”

She gets quiet before she finally answers, “Your agent had a chat with me, I thought it was a cowardly move to be the oneto get rid of me but now I know it didn’t come from you.”

“No.” I put my hands around her hips, pulling her closer to my warmth. “I don’t want you to go anywhere. You mean more to me than you realize.”

“You spend so much time with each other… he knows you. He knows what is best for your career.”

“He doesn’t know my heart.” I swallow hard around the words coming out of my mouth. “He doesn’t have bad intentions but his priorities are different than mine.”

“We’ve only known each other for two months,” she pauses.

“And you already feel like home, a part of the family, a part of my heart.” I finish, my eyes searching hers for any type of indication. I don’t want to lose her. “In all of my chaos, I found a moment to breathe with you. I became addicted to your smile, your laughter, your fire that never ceases to burn me when I’m around you.” My fingers wrap around her jaw. “Your responsive body that always tells me the truth when you hide it.”

“Meadow…” her voice is a tiny whisper.

“I have a ride with the summer group now and a few experienced bikers joining us to celebrate with them. Don’t go anywhere I want to see you afterward.” I kiss her soft lips. “I want to talk about this.”

“Okay.” She squeezes my hand and I know my words calmed her for now.

It pains me to pull away but I have my duties. “I’ll see you later, promise?”

“Yeah,” she nods and I can’t read her eyes, “I promise.”

“Do you want to join us?” Maybe riding can help us.Her.

“I’m going to sit this one out. Have fun.” She gives me a glimpse of her sweet smile before she enters her room.

FUCK!

Wanting to punch the air or pummel the motherfucker who ruined what I built this summer, I curse in my head.

I extract my phone from my pocket, texting my agent as I stride to my bike and straddle it.

Meadow

I told you to leave her out of this.

Tom

I need you to focus.

You already said it wasn’t serious, I figured a little chat wouldn’t harm anyone.

You lost your last race, I’m just looking out for you.

I type the words angrily, jabbing my thumbs on the screen.
